Publisher's Summary

A Gotrek Gurnisson novel.

When Felix Jaeger, a student, poet and minor political agitator, swears a drunken oath to a half-mad dwarf, it changes his life. Adventure awaits, as Felix records the mighty deeds of Gotrek Gurnisson, Trollslayer.

Listen to It Because: This collection of stories is where the saga of Gotrek began. Mutants in the forest, goblins in the mountains, a troll beneath the world - from these small beginnings came the greatest partnership in the Old World and a hero who has crossed realities and become a legend.

The Story: Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask....

After fleeing the authorities in the Imperial city of Altdorf, Felix Jaeger swears a drunken oath to dour dwarf Gotrek Gurnisson to record his death saga. In the cold light of day, Felix's worst fears are confirmed as he learns that Gotrek is a Trollslayer - a dwarf doomed to seek out a heroic death in battle to atone for an unknown personal disgrace. Their travels throw them into a string of extraordinary adventures as Felix tries to survive his companion's destiny.

Written by William King. Narrated by Jonathan Keeble.

Favourite Series!

This is my absolute favourite series of books, and I've wanted to reread them for some time, but just don't have the hours in a day anymore to do so! Enter, Jonathan Keeble. Keeble's voice acting really does help to immerse you in the world! I find myself more enthralled than when I first read the series! I recommend these books to anyone who loves adventure, and Warhammer lore!

Berserker Dwarf and his scholar friend

It’s the story of the troll slayer, Gotrek Gurnisson, who seeks an honourable death in battle with great foes.

Slayers are a cult of dwarves who have had their honour besmirched. They self-exile themselves, go on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Grimnir where they swear an oath to become an instrument of death to their enemies until they are granted an honourable death at the hands of their foes. They shave their heads except for their “crest”, which they dye orange and hold up with bear fat or pig grease.

Felix Jaegar, was a former scholar turned roaming poet who was expelled from his university after killing a man in a duel. He was rescued by Gotrek and swore an oath, while drunk at a pub, to record Gotrek’s tale of seeking out his honor. This novel is the recordings of his trials and tribulations from the perspective of Felix.

Originally I did not care for the format of the book. It grew on me by the second chapter. The performance is awesome. The voice of Felix and Gotrek fit perfectly, in my opinion.

I picked up this book with little understanding off warhammer, other then seeing previews for warhammer online and it has a miniature based game. This book had me seek out warhammer lore, like who the slayers were. I even ended up buying Vermintide 2, which Gotrek’s son is Bardin Gotreksson is in. I bought the second book before I finished the first,

The one thing that bothered me about this book was at the end of a chapter where they have righted some wrong and cleared their names it’s always like, now let’s go teach the person or establishment that got us into this mess a lesson in manners” and then the chapter ends. What gives. The Protagonists get framed or in some sort of peril caused by the antagonist. The Protagonists escape, fight, clear their names and imply said antagonist is going to get what’s coming to them and….chapter ends. I really wanted to here about the antagonist getting his comeuppance. Maybe I’m just vengeful that way.

Regardless this book was full of action, some suspense and worth every penny or credit. I’m already 4 chapters into skaven slayer.

enjoyable but fairly predictable

The narrator did a great job, especially with the different character voices. The story was solid and enjoyable, but more along the lines of a collection of short stories with the same characters instead of one continuous novel. My only real complaint, is that the main plot points tended to be on the predictable side, nevertheless it is still an easy recommend for someone that's looking for a fun and straightforward fantasy book.

Fantastic storytelling

I really enjoyed the story telling, the narrator was fantastic. I only wish there had been a female narrator for the female characters, it would’ve added a little something to the storytelling. But no major complaints, I really enjoyed this, as my intro into Warhammer audio books.
Overall, a solid and fun Gotrek and Felix story. I have read the book many times, but this was something equally as enjoyable. I bought Skavenslayer before I finished this audio book. I look forward to hearing more and completing the audio book collection.
Well worth the time and expense.

A wonderful story

Great stories, great characters, great author and a wonderful narrator.

reminds me of the Witcher short stories except in the warhammer fantasy world with a grim dark vibe.
personally I prefer the duo.

The performance makes this one

Loved this book. Some great sword and sorcery action with fun characters. The narration really elevates this one above and beyond though. Definitely recommend this to anyone who likes high octane action in their fantasy.

It has great reviews for a reason!!

I basically ran out of Warhammer 40K books and this was my first real foray into Warhammer fantasy. I’ve known about the Trollslayer for over a decade so I thought I’d give it a try. Great stories, great characters and awesome narration as usual from Jonathan Keeble. Now I’m on to the next instalment.

Great stuff!!
