3.5 stars story not fully realized

For the most part, the writing of the story and character actions and dialogue are good but it lacks emotional depth. The heart of the story is missing. In a way it almost seems avoided. I would rather an author try to delve deep and not get the psychology of the characters perfectly than not try at all. The books would be improved if it included some character thought processes & emotional angst shown / displayed not just stated in only a couple places. It's unfortunate because the story and writing has potential. The narration was good for the most part except in a few instances when she spoke out of character & made the female character sound a bit juvenile. However, as the book progressed the narration quickly became increasingly better.
