About this listen
Fourteen-year-old girls are disappearing, and it is hardly headline news.
Before leaving prison, having served 12 years, Harper Kane makes a promise - to find out what happened to an inmate’s missing teenage daughter.
But first, she must secure a well-paid job and a place of her own to take back custody of her son.
What she falls into is a frightening discovery of human trafficking.
Forced to make an inconceivable decision, Harper will use everything she has learned inside to protect her family, even if that means resorting to murder.
Who can you trust if you can’t trust the people who are supposed to protect you?
Four sisters - the matriarch - the abused - the backstabber - and the missing.
Trusted is a gripping new crime thriller from the Governor of Gangland - Kerry Barnes!

Trust Me.. 'Trusted' is AWFUL
It's hard to emphasize just how bad this book is. From the nauseating description of torture-murder to the matter-of-fact depiction of dismembering a corpse to the nonchalant portrayal of teenaged girls engaging in prostitution because they want spending money for an upcoming vacation.. this story is appalling. Kerry Barnes introduces us to a horrifying imagining of the seedy underbelly of the Manchester Underworld.. putting her protagonist in the midst of the author's version of women: sketchy, low-quality straight-up *whores*somehow meant to be portrayed as sympathetic.
To be fair, the writing isn't the worst that I have seen, and the expletive-laden dialogue is at least street-level realistic.. but the author's conception of a supportable "heroine" is laughable. Paroled ex-con 'Harper Lane' is a straight-up POS.
As to presentation: Reader Annie Aldington demonstrates reasonable diction, timbre, and cadence.. but her over-the-top emotional tone borders on the histrionic; some female and child voices are painfully shrill (avoid earbuds if you value your middle ear ossicles); a few false-basso male interpretations are legitimately cringeworthy; and she delivers perhaps the worst Russian accent that I have ever heard. QUEST Audio/W.F. Howes should have at least *tried* to cast this project better.
'Trusted' rates 1 star out of 10. Even for free, it's more likely to drop your IQ a couple of points than entertain you. Just.. Don't.
[NOTE: Torture-Murdering people and applauding their bloodcurdling screams of agony because they "fucked with (her) family" is NOT redeeming for the character (Look, everyone! She's a hero protecting her loved ones!🙄). The Author needs to have her head examined]
