About this listen
At 38, Zavier “Cade” McCade has it all: a military career he can be proud of, a successful business, and a close-knit group of family and friends. A former Army Special Forces captain, Cade leaves the military to create Custos Securities, a burgeoning protection agency that provides unparalleled security for both civilians and corporations across the US.
After a string of disastrous relationships - and a narrow escape from an abusive partner - Braden Cross is finally putting his past to rest. Combining both his passion for baking and his knack for business, Braden owns the Sugar n' Spice Cafe with his best friend, who concocts exotic coffees and teas that pair perfectly with his decadent confections.
When a stalker sets his sights on Braden, the young pastry chef's world is turned upside down. More frightened than he cares to admit and not knowing where to turn, Braden is relieved when Cade steps in to offer his protection. Caught up in a maelstrom of threats, break-ins, and vandalism, the two draw closer together.
Braden eventually realizes he can trust Cade with his life, but he finds himself wondering...can he trust him with his heart?
Contains mature themes.

I enjoyed this story and characters!
I was worried at first the characters moved to fast but it really worked for the story and the world built up for the series. The narrator had a soothing voice and i enjoyed his performance. I am looking forward the continuing the series and hearing more from all the characters.

was okay
the narrator wasn't great. I struggled to be able to tell different characters. it kind of sounded like a news report. it was a good story but I had a hard time staying focused. not going to continue the series.

Hmm…
I would’ve given this book four stars if not for the peak and ending . It felt like the narrator closed the book, but there were still chapters left to be read because it ended so abruptly, and not necessarily in a cliffhanger type of way, more like the author stopped writing thinking that it would create intrigue towards the second book, but failed miserably. This felt like it was the end, but there was no resolution, no wrap up, not even a real happily ever after.
I don’t know …10 hours was a lot for this book. Even with that, the “ending” seemed rushed and VERY anticlimactic. The stalker a.k.a. the ex, seemed to be the laziest stalker I’ve ever seen! He goes from threatening, violent, aggressive and walking around with a gun to scared, all from one phone call from the new guy and then decides to return the captive, tell them where he is and just leave? what???? Don’t get me started on the fact that the macho male lead’s security team is supposed to be made out of these elite ex-soldiers and they’re supposed to have all these amazing skills and truth be told the other male lead would’ve died if the stalker didn’t return him.
it could have easily been read in less than seven hours.
The narrator was OK but the sound quality wasn’t the best. I found that there were times you can clearly hear when he took a break because you can hear the changes in the mic, additionally he used the same voice for everyone.
