I love this series, I’ve read all six books as well as the 6 spin off books. Well rounded stories with satisfying conclusions.

Great series

I love love LOVE this book series, but have been pretty disappointed with the voice acting. Sadly, the actress doesn’t convey the emotions of the conversation when speaking, and without the constant explanation of said emotions (ie « she said with anger » after reading the line with joy and eagerness). Some voices felt very uncomfortable and I would have preferred multiple voice actors for better results. The book has a great story and it’s great to be able to go back to my teen years with this series.

these books are a favorite of mine, I've read them several times in print.
I was disappointed with this reader, she sounded clinical. it just wasn't a good match. It sounded like I was listening to a lecture. luckily the next book in the series is a different voice.

The first book in this uber popular series begins with friends Rose and Lissa, who, after being on the run for years, are found and dragged back to the infamous Academy they were attempting to hide from.

Together, Rose and Lissa are good characters. With complete opposite personalities but loyalty to each other, it was nice to see them supporting one another despite all the hardship. That said, they definitely had their flaws. Lissa was my favourite of the two, with her kindness and naivety. Rose was funny and had some serious sass, but her boy-crazy focus wore a little thin on me.

The side characters weren’t as deep as I’d like, but I did find Victor to be the most compelling of them all. Some motivations were a little shallow, but it could just be that I’m not the ride reader for this series.

As for the plot and pacing, much of the focus was on the forbidden romances, the social hierarchy in the academy, and the strange occurrences around Lissa. I feel like that last one was pushed to the way side more often than not, so the ending didn’t quite satisfy me.

All told, I do see why people love this series and modern urban vampire fiction owes a great deal to it. So while it’s not for me, I encourage other people to check it out.
