Main character going downhill

When did Ishmael become such a jerk? He's annoyingly pompous and rude, quite unlike in the first two books.

He gives fellow agents a hard time about people dying on their watch when he himself can't keep anyone other than himself and his girlfriend alive.

He's become very unlikeable and if it continues into book 4, I think I'll be better off moving on to something else.
