Publisher's Summary
To catch a villain, sometimes you have to become one.
Bailey's back! From the best-selling author of Jailbird.
Detective Constable Bailey Morgan is back doing what she does best - working undercover. This time she has to infiltrate the inner circle of a notorious underworld family. Posing as a fellow villain, she is on a one-woman mission to bring the family to their knees.
But things are never that simple. Bailey finds that she is forced to confront shadowy wraiths from her past and will come face-to-face with a set of devastating revelations that will shatter her world and threaten her very existence.
With only herself to trust, Bailey is on her own and the stakes are higher than ever.
Heart-stopping and gripping. Perfect for the fans of hit TV shows such as Line of Duty and Gangs of London.

Noticeably Weaker 'Bailey Morgan' Tale
The first entry in this Suspense-Thriller series from Caro Savage was a decent listen. This one isn't.
The undercover mission - infiltrate a notorious gun-running Crime Family who had one member killed by a car bomb - is plotted well, the characters are fascinating (OCD, paranoid, pathologically cruel, etc), and the vocabulary/prose will never win any awards.. but is at least serviceable. The "catch the bad guys" story evolves into a scenario linked with the childhood abduction of Detective Sergeant Morgan's sister.
Unfortunately, the threats to Bailey (Rape, Torture, Murder) if she is discovered are so over-the-top unbelievable that reader/listeners feel manipulated. The previous narrative - set in a prison - was loaded with believable/plausible danger. The tension in this one is laughably contrived.
Genevieve Swallow contributes to the errors with a subpar delivery: undeniably professional but diminishing her performance with melodramatic emphasis and some cartoonish character voices.
Altogether, 'Villain' merits 3 stars out of 10. For free, it wasn't a total waste of time, I guess. If you can get it as a 'Plus' option - as I did - you're not crazy to do so.. but save your Credit for something else should they ask for one.
