About this listen
Hailed as Charlotte Brontë’s “finest novel” by Virginia Woolf, Villette is the timeless semi-autobiographical tale of Lucy Snowe. Left with no family and no money, Lucy goes against her own timid nature and travels to the small city of Villette, France, where she becomes a school teacher in Madame Beck’s school for girls. During her stay, she falls in love—twice—and discovers an independent, inner strength rarely seen in women of her time.

Villett
I am aware that this story is a classic but I had difficulty with the highly descriptive prose. The story is a good one but I found myself daydreaming during the long descriptions.

Suffer the end
Dire consequences to my sensibilities laying with a restlessness upon my imagination. Must I choose? Can she not lift her hand hence a brief thought emerge? But no, I must draw sustenance from the hints of sustainability, reference to longer days and fulfillment. Language lingers and flourishes upon me for a moment. I lay all to rest and journey on to other realms.
