Publisher's Summary

Hugo Award-winning author Timothy Zahn brings his epic two-volume series The Hand of Thrawn to an explosive conclusion with a discovery that rocks the New Republic to its foundations - and threatens to resurrect the Empire.

The Empire's master plan is under way. The New Republic is on the verge of civil war and the rumor that the legendary Admiral Thrawn has returned from the dead is rallying the Imperial forces. Now Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and their allies face the challenge of their lives. They must infiltrate a hidden fortress filled with Imperial fanatics, rendezvous with a double-dealing Imperial commander, and journey into enemy territory to learn the identity of those responsible for an act of unthinkable genocide. But most important of all is the truth about Thrawn. In his hands - alive or dead - rests the fate of the New Republic.

An excellent end to a saga

Everything fit together perfectly. And the music chosen for specific moments is perfect (especially near the end with the question)

Give Marc Thompson every award

It doesn't matter where you are in your Thrawn journey, every Zahn/Thompson collab is a pleasure to listen to.

This book specifically was 6-7 books into the Thrawniverse for me and it didn't fail to deliver.

I do think of all the books this one has a bit too much setup, which in and of itself isn't a bad thing, but there are about 5-6 different storylines that each advance. Some political, some action. It's a 26 hour book so I suppose it's to be expected. I guess I'm used to the slightly faster pace of the trilogies. None of it is lost though; it all comes together and is well done.

Also, Marc Thompson deserves acclaim for his versatility in the different characters' vocalizations. So. Well. Done. Having said that, if I never hear another Qom Jha or Qom Qae again I won't lose sleep. And let's hope Gavrisom doesn't get another term. Basically, anything with wings.

10/10 a genuine pleasure to listen to

Marc Thomson is by far the best narrator I have ever listened to!! combined with the high value of production (sound effect, atmosphere...) it has made for an absolute joy to listen to!!

Timothy Zahn has never failed to produce absolute gems. Even in this book I began to feel as though certain parts were dragging on but then it would come together beautifully! tbh I will be endlessly impressed both by the fact in this book that he had so many different angles and yet never missed a beat in addition to his ability to revisit old question left by his other books and the together all of works into a consistent gritty narrative that truly feels as though you're reading about another universe!

10/10 I recommend every book that this duo is involved in!!

performance top notch as usual!

There performance was excellent as usual from Marc Thompson. Story was gripping and entertaining all the way through. I will admit that part one of this series was slow and disappointing , but after finishing part two it all comes together and makes part one good!

A compelling conclusion

This is Timothy Zahn’s book two of the Hand of Thrawn Duology. At over 26 hours it’s quite the commitment but worth a listen. The intrigue is woven throughout and there are numerous characters with interesting storylines. This is also the book where two significant events occur which set the tone for future books in the EU series legends canon. A bit too over philosophical at times with too much dialogue and little action; it nevertheless keeps you gripped during the last eight chapters or so when all the storylines come to a close. One minor disappointment is that the villains are not that menacing but serve their purpose. A pet peeve I do have with Zahn is that he rarely kills any of the good guys. No matter what they always manage to come on top. Bottom line, if you have listened to the first volume then this is a must. Some storylines drag a bit especially the Luke and Mara one but again in the end it will be worth it.
