Publisher's Summary

“You keep what you kill. That’s one law everybody out here respects.”

Twenty years ago, the Merge brought armies of monsters flooding into the West Coast.

Dungeons popped up in shopping malls, airports, and Starbucks. Walls were built to contain the spread, but the promise of priceless loot dropped by the creatures inspired a new type of gold rush. Magical weapons, powerful gear, potions to cure every ill...If you survive long enough to kill the mob, whatever they drop belongs to you.

Clay Jaeger has nothing left outside the walls. Civilization took everything he worked for, chewed it up, and spat it out. Now Clay, his wife Alex, and his beer-loving, chainsaw-toting brother, Joe, are going west to try their hand at monster killing.

The loot from the low-level mobs is enticing, but it isn’t the real reason they risked the Infested Zone. They need to kill a Dungeon Lord. Only one in 10,000 hunters pull it off. The rest become fertilizer for the wasteland. But the few who beat the odds gain riches, glory, and most importantly, the Dungeon Lord’s magical powers.

They have nothing left to lose and everything to gain. If they survive.

light hearted and goofy

great listen, storyline checked a lot of boxes for me. Had me thinking of hitchhiker's guide, the boys and rimworld but with a litRPG slant

A Great Narrator

This story, and the whole series, was fun. There wasn’t anything great about it, and I’d love to say I’d remember it if it weren’t in my library, but that would be a lie. That said, it’s a good story with fun characters and a nice progression hook to keep readers interested. The narrator does a good job with the different characters, as “voices” can often ruin the immersion of a reader with his or her story. In this case, nothing is over the top and he does a great job, even with one character who’s a bit over the top. If you’re browsing unlimited tiles, you can’t go wrong with this story and its subsequent chapters. If you’re spending money, any credits that get you this and extra titles is worth it.

Very good!

Picked this up because its free and is narrated by Travis Baldree. Was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it quite a bit. Characters are likeable and its a slightly different take on this genre. Not a lot of stat reading (though there is some... which is fine) but still feels like a video game world albeit from our MCs' point of view, only the very beginning of a long road. Might be too small a morsel for some as its only 3.5 hours long but I think the way they are releasing the other 2 volumes this month, they prob could have bundled the 3 into one longer title since now the wait has begun.

Anyway I highly recommend and as always Travis kills it.

Loved it

About half way through when I realized that this is part of the aftermath of another series that the authors wrote. Looking for more to this series and the other
