Publisher's Summary
Fifth grade was the worst year of Marc's life. He stunk at gym class, math was too hard for him, the school lunch was horrible, and his class field trip was ruined because he couldn't swim. But what was the most awful thing about fifth grade? Kenny Williamson, the class bully, who called himself the "King of the Jungle".
When Marc's mother tells him that his uncle Jake is coming to stay for the whole summer, Marc can't wait. Uncle Jake is a for-real super-cool Navy SEAL. And Uncle Jake has a plan.
He's going to turn Marc into a warrior.
Becoming a warrior isn't easy. It means a lot of pull-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, squats, swimming, eating right, and studying harder than ever before! Can Marc transform himself into a warrior before school starts in the fall - and finally stand up to the King of the Jungle himself?

Story
Leadership is the most challenging of human endeavors. It is often misunderstood. It can bewilder, mystify, and frustrate even the most dedicated practitioners. Leaders at all levels are often forced to use theoretical guesswork to make decisions and lead their troops. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY. There are principles that can be applied and tenets that can be followed. There are skills that can be learned and maneuvers that can be practiced and executed. There are leadership strategies and tactics that have been tested and proven on the battlefield, in business, and in life.

In the military, a field manual provides instructions in simple, clear, step-by-step language to help soldiers complete their mission. In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need.

Story
Being a kid can really stink. And no one knows this better than Greg Heffley, who finds himself thrust into middle school, where undersized weaklings share the hallways with kids who are taller, meaner, and already shaving. In Diary of a Wimpy Kid, author and illustrator Jeff Kinney introduces us to an unlikely hero. As Greg says in his diary: Just don't expect me to be all "Dear Diary" this and "Dear Diary" that. Luckily for us, what Greg Heffley says he won’t do and what he actually does are two very different things.

My daughters loved this story
They felt it was a good story with a great ending. However they found Jocko’s voice to be unsettling as a mom.

Jocko! What a guy !
Jocko really nailed this story. Easy read/listen and the well performed. A great presentation of Jocko’s core messages of Discipline Equals Freedom - for the shaping of a young mind.
My 8 year old daughter and I listened to a chapter each night after her reading and bedtime prep. She loves it and looks forward to book 2.
Thanks Jocko!

Jocko is the best!
Jocko is awesome and put his best teaching points in a kid friendly format. Can't wait to take my kids through this book... Which, btw, is certainly not just for kids, everyone needs to understand and apply these most basic concepts.

Incredible book to listen with your child
Wasn't sure what to expect with this one. Though I was really impressed with Jocko's previous work "Extreme Ownership" (check it out too) this one was geared towards kids and raising kids.
I was a little skeptical.
My wife and I screened it together for the first hour or so. We were both quickly hooked.
More surprisingly my daughter (7 years old) loved it. It became the thing she wanted to do asking me "dad, can we listen to the warrior kid book?" I think a large part of its appeal was having Jocko's son, Thor, narrate the majority of it. My daughter loved it. But she also wanted to start exercising more, and became more conscious of what she was eating. It even helped inspire her with her homework!
I realize there are lots of books out there that are excellent. Many may even have a similar approach. Of the many that I've read though, this was the best of the type to share with my child. Not exaggerating at all - it was a life changing book for both myself and my daughter.
Have we turned ourselves into a hardcore 4am workout / paleo/ conquering all fears / bridge jumping - jiu-jitsu grappling family?
No.
But the book acted as a catalyst to have discussions with my daughter about self discipline, health, fitness, safety, and arguably most importantly in today's day and age, self confidence. We talk about these things anyway. But this book helped focus both of us on the topic.
My son is only four. Though he listened with us from time to time, he was obviously a little young for it.
I look forward to listening to it again when he's a little older, with both my kids.
Worth. Every. Penny.
And then some.

Exceptional book for kids to learn true values. Values that exceed Race Gender and the rest of them. alot of people would benifet from the book period.
