About this listen
“If King had written a sequel to The Stand, it might look something like this monumental epic of a story.”—James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Kingdom of Bones
“As great as Wanderers was, Wayward is better.”—Christopher Golden, New York Times bestselling author of Road of Bones
Five years ago, ordinary Americans fell under the grip of a strange new malady that caused them to sleepwalk across the country to a destination only they knew. They were followed on their quest by the shepherds: friends and family who gave up everything to protect them.
Their secret destination: Ouray, a small town in Colorado that would become one of the last outposts of civilization. Because the sleepwalking epidemic was only the first in a chain of events that led to the end of the world—and the birth of a new one.
The survivors, sleepwalkers and shepherds alike, have a dream of rebuilding human society. Among them are Benji, the scientist struggling through grief to lead the town; Marcy, the former police officer who wants only to look after the people she loves; and Shana, the teenage girl who became the first shepherd—and an unlikely hero whose courage will be needed again.
Because the people of Ouray are not the only survivors, and the world they are building is fragile. The forces of cruelty and brutality are amassing under the leadership of self-proclaimed president Ed Creel. And in the very heart of Ouray, the most powerful survivor of all is plotting its own vision for the new world: Black Swan, the AI who imagined the apocalypse.
Against these threats, Benji, Marcy, Shana, and the rest have only one hope: one another. Because the only way to survive the end of the world is together.

Wayward is perfection
Thanks for writing it, Chuck. I enjoyed every word, I said this to my husband last week (as I’m sure I’m hardly the first!) that these two books should be made into a film/series ala WD or TLoU. 5 stars all around for Wayward and for Wanderers.

Drawn out and more concerned with explaining gender pronouns than the story
I'm not sure what the writers true intentions of this book were but you can't listen without constantly feeling like the writer is trying to push one ridiculous world view after another on the reader. I had to tap out about half way through, after what felt like the 100th pronoun listing. I only have so much patience for this nonsense. There was no reason the last book had to be 30 hours and there is even less reason for this one to be so long. Great idea for a story ruined by the writers political views.

Not great but worth a listen
If you're like me and love your books more on the sci/fi side this is a good option. I use the word "good" on purpose there. I feel like this one got away from what made the first book really good. Although my problem with the first book was that the mystery was unveiled so soon. Through this one we know what the overall story is, and there isn't a ton of intriguing mystery. I still enjoyed it for the creativity and the closure to the first book it brings. The premise of the two books is great, I just think the curtain could have been pulled back a little better.
