About this listen
A trail of secrets. A dangerous discovery. A deadly turn.
Police officer Sebastian Clifford never planned on becoming a private investigator. But when a scandal leads to the disbandment of his London based special squad, he finds himself out of a job. That is, until his cousin calls on him to investigate her husband’s high-profile death, and prove that it wasn’t a suicide.
Clifford’s reluctant to get involved, but the more he digs, the more evidence he finds. With his ability to remember everything he's ever seen, he's the perfect person to untangle the layers of deceit.
He meets Detective Constable Bird, an underutilized detective at Market Harborough’s police force, who refuses to give him access to the records he’s requested unless he allows her to help with the investigation. Clifford isn't thrilled. The last time he worked as part of a team it ended his career. But with time running out, Clifford is out of options. Together they must wade through the web of lies in the hope that they’ll find the truth before it kills them.
Includes bonus story Nowhere to Hide.

Fantastic new series with a twist!
Loved this audio listen and its prequel that followed. The crime involved forensic accounting, a junior Ponzi scheme, and 2 unlikely cops. Sib is a former cop who pairs up with one of the craziest j detective ever encountered in crime fiction, Birdy. She brought such energy, such sass to the tale. She doesn’t always play by the rules, but she gets the job done. Highly recommended!

Not even Keeble could save this
I bought the book because I am a huge Jonathan Keeble fan but he couldn't save this dog . Trite and banal PI romance Quirky bubble head teams up with hunky
older aristocrat to solve crime . Next on Netflix
The prequel at the end is worse. Bubble head back story poses as a homless person to catch mean teens in the act. Wow. What's not to believe about believe about a fresh faced 20 something with perky breasts posing as as homeless person ? . Rather than trudge through more tedium while Aristocrat and bubble head make their way toward the sheets, I'll return to beating the bushes until the next Scarrow or Strike book comes out. I'm waiting for Strike and Robin to get it on and Cato to make Legate before I die.
