Publisher's Summary

Rian Thompson thought she joined the gym to get healthy. Little did she know she was about to add 190 pounds of swoonworthy abdominal muscles and arrogance to her life.

Every day in Rians's life follows a predictable pattern, and she wouldn't have it any other way. She's got a nice job, a nice place to live, and a nice family - even if they are a little wedding-zilla-ish at the moment.

She doesn't need anything spectacular to be happy. She just needs to get healthy - mentally, physically...and maybe spiritually if that happens. But she'll settle for two out of three until her sister finally gets hitched.

Carlos Davies thought his life was perfect. Little did he know it was about to be turned upside down by a woman who is not his type.

In Carlos' mind, his life is damn near perfect. He's got a great job, a great place to live, and a great stash of pickup lines that always work. It has occurred to him that maybe no one actually takes him all that seriously. But with these bulging biceps and thick, dark hair, does that even matter since he's never sleeping alone?

Welcome to Weight Expectations, where great - and unexpected - things happen.

Contains mature themes.

Don’t Weight for it… give it a try.

I liked that this story wrote of real weight challenges and inner dialogue. It spoke of better eating and exercise for health reasons… and it was nice that the ‘real’ woman has a voice. The male narrator did speak as if Carlos was what might be thought of as a “stereotypical bodybuilder” tone, which I agree is irritating for the listener. I enjoyed this book otherwise.

Weak story - poor male narration

I should have read the other reviews before listening to this one. The male character in the story is weak, with a lot of repetitive, cringy dialogue. The male narrator makes it sound even worse. This one should be a pass for many.

could get past male narrator voice

I tried to get into this book, but just couldn't. I don't know how to explain the voice other than he made the character sound like a moron.
I wanted to like the book but just couldn't.

Good story and irritating male narrator (at times)

I was a bit put off by the male narrator's voice. It sounded more like a surfer or Bill&Ted. The rest was good.

Almost DNF Male Narrator is Annoying

Lead protagonist narrator is excellent and I love knitting in the city so I want to read this series hence pushing through. I appreciate the issues they were both overcoming and had some satisfying payoff moments. There is one chapter where you are basically listening to protagonist take a first yoga class real time that is not particularly funny & crawls by. I’m on the second book of the series now and it is the same male narrator. Be forewarned.

Worst Male Vocal Performance Ever

If you love Penny Reid, you may be lured into the Smartypants book universe. i would advise you to lower your expectations in terms of plot and character development. The Beavis and Butthead sounding voice of the male lead is totally cringe-worthy. My daughter thought I was listening to a cartoon. I wish I had been. No pleasure to be had from this recording.

The male narrator was painful to listen to

At first I thought the male narrator was putting on a voice for a specific character and tolerated it for a chapter, but then I skipped ahead and realized he sounds like that throughout the entire book. I couldn’t do it. I missed out on this story because the male narrator’s voice was like nails on a chalkboard and I just couldn’t do it.
