About this listen
What's holding you back? Your hard work is paying off. You are doing well in your field. But there is something standing between you and the next level of achievement. Perhaps one small flaw, a behavior you barely even recognize, is the only thing that's keeping you from where you want to be.
Who can help? Marshall Goldsmith is an expert at helping global leaders overcome their (sometimes unconscious) annoying habits and attaining a higher level of success. His one-on-one coaching comes with a six-figure price tag. But with this audiobook, you'll get Marshall's great advice without the hefty fee!
What is the solution? The Harvard Business Review asked Goldsmith, "What is the most common problem faced by the executives that you coach?" Inside, he answers this question by discussing not only the key beliefs of successful leaders, but also the behaviors that hold them back. He addresses the fundamental problems that often come with success and offers ways to attack them. Goldsmith outlines 20 habits commonly found in the corporate environment and provides a systematic approach to helping executives achieve a positive change in behavior.

In business, the right behaviors matter. But getting it right is tricky. Even when we acknowledge the need to change what we do and how we do it, life has a habit of getting in the way, upsetting even the best-laid plans. And just how do we manage those situations that can provoke even the most rational among us into behaving in ways we would rather forget?

Story
For decades, Peter F. Drucker was widely regarded as "the dean of this country's business and management philosophers" ( Wall Street Journal). In this concise and brilliant work, he looks to the most influential position in management - the executive. The measure of the executive, Drucker reminds us, is the ability to "get the right things done". This usually involves doing what other people have overlooked as well as avoiding what is unproductive.

Again and again, they see that women face specific and different road blocks from men as they advance in the workplace. In fact, the very habits that helped women early in their careers can hinder them as they move up. Simply put, what got you here won't get you there...and you might not even realize your blind spots until it's too late.

Story
We've all had experiences with two dramatically different types of leaders. The first type drain intelligence, energy, and capability from the people around them and always need to be the smartest people in the room. These are the idea killers, the energy sappers, the diminishers of talent and commitment. On the other side of the spectrum are leaders who use their intelligence to amplify the smarts and capabilities of the people around them.

Missing Resources
I really enjoyed the audiobook however - there is a very good appendix at the end which is quite lengthy and would have been appreciated to have been made available as a PDF as part of my purchase.
I will have difficulty applying what I learned without it...

Identify and fix common interpersonal mistakes.
This book is for anyone struggling to break through to the next level or wants to find and fix their flaws. Directed primarily at management or those with high influence.
The book reads like an extended playbook. First triage your challenges. Given the twenty habits listed in the book, your area to improve is likely covered. I like how each one is explained and provided simple steps (not easy) to address then. Using through 360 reviews find the most important habit. Then comes the rollout. Apologize. Gather more feedback. How do you communicate your change? Who should be involved? Sharing your progress and making the impact you need.
This is an easy book to read, but I think will be hard to implement. Change takes time. It does everything to set you up for success and it is your job to take the next step. I am looking forward to reading it again and again as I try to apply the lessons.
