About this listen

Once, I fell in love with a man who deceived me.

For weeks, he stood by my side, twisting his words into pretty half-truths. He enraptured me with his smooth temptation, leaving no corner of my being untouched. He consumed my mind and my body, then finally claimed my heart for himself. But Caelum’s true identity is terrifying enough to bring me to my knees.

Then, I discovered the truth of who he is.

Caldris is whispered in the Nothrek wind. The legend we only speak of with hushed words, in shuttered rooms, for fear of drawing his wrath once again. His intentions are a mystery, his desires impure, and he seeks to shackle me to his side for all eternity. With the Wild Hunt as our guard, he points us back to where it all began: the village of Mistfell and the boundary where the Veil once shimmered in the wind.

Now, another secret crouches, poised to change everything.

The Mist Guard have been sworn to keep us from crossing into Alfheimr and from treading Faerie soil, even if innocents must pay with their lives. They have orders to resurrect Mistfell’s shimmering barrier, but, once again, there’s a greater cost than what has been revealed.

Once, the people of Northrek blamed me when the Veil fell. Soon, they’ll want me to pay the price the magic requires.

Author’s Note: This book is intended for listeners who are 18 and older. It contains mature language, graphic violence, and explicit content with darker elements. This is book two in a series and ends in a cliffhanger.

I’m loving this series

Trigger warning ⚠️ again just like book 1 there is the talk of child abuse and unwanted sexual advances.

So at the end of book 1 kinda left on a cliffhanger even though I think we all knew he was fae and her mate only she didn’t.

There was a lot of back and forth as she struggled to come to peace with the fact that the man she loved was a fae that she was raised to hate. The back & forth goes on through out the entire book and gets annoying but the spice is great.

She discovers new powers and a darkness that she feels that lives inside her. She tries to bond with the other human mates only to her own detriment.

They go back to the tunnel from the resistance and find out more about herself and another young woman that either one of them could be the queens lost daughter.

She has to go back home to cross over into the fae land but first there’s a stand off with the man who caused her so much pain for years.

The world is interesting m, the story is okay and the spice is just perfect 🤩

Spicy ACOTAR

This is the perfect romantasy! All the best aspects of ACOTAR but with more spicy scenes. Love this series!

Good

I like the story a lot, what I don't like is how thoughtless the FMC sometimes is. She completely disregards others. However, she sometimes thinks too much of other and too little of herself. It's a contradiction. I like the plot and am anxious to find out what happens next, however, I hope the characters become a little more enticing.

ok

I was not the biggest fan of this one. A few moments in it really annoyed me, and I just didn't feel a connection to the characters. I half listened to a lot of it unfortunately. I was upset over Estrella being a hypocrite. She was so angry at Caelum for being a fae bad guy, but it's ok for her to go and kill the guy who killed her brother? Like that doesn't make her bad? Also, after she dies for the few seconds from drowning, Caelum really needed sex right away? Like come on, she just died, put your ego away and let her rest. It really annoyed me and made me feel like he really didn't care about her as much as himself.
There were some good action and emotional moments, but overall this book was just ok to me. I'll read the next one cuz I have it, but doubt I'll get the fourth book unless the 3rd really redeems itself.

an entire book that could have been a few chapters

The whole book is like a few days worth of time. They roam around, have spicy time (likely in public while talking about his monster schlong to much), get into a dumb argument that could have been avoided by being level headed and communicating like normal people, then roam around some more. Plot who? The premise of this series had such potential but just fell flat to me. The 2nd and 3rd books could easily of been combined into one shorter book. Won't be finishing the series for the first time ever.

Couldn’t finish

I just couldn’t do it. I thought maybe partway through it was going to get better but I still have like eight hours to go and I can’t do it. I think there’s zero plot or I really don’t understand what the plot is supposed to be. The main character is stupid and annoying and the entire time seems to be forgiving the male main character but then she doesn’t. It’s the same thing over and over again I think it’s been about five times that she seems to have gotten over things and yet hasn’t for no reason. They just kind of wander around getting a fight over nothing have sex and wander around some more. There’s absolutely nothing happening beyond that.

And the scenes are god awful. Just the descriptions are so cringe. I’m not sexy at all. And they’re getting in kind of weird BDSM territory and I’m not really about that.

The other big issue I have is why is there a male narrator who only randomly narrates the male chapters? Why doesn’t he narrate the male characters instead of switching between the female narrator narrating everything and then another chapter of the male narrator narrating everything makes no sense to me. If you’re paying to have two narrators why wouldn’t you have the male do all the male voices and the female do all the female voices? So it’s essentially two different people narrating each character it’s super weird.

disappointing

The main characters act like angsty teenagers ruled by hormones. The world is interesting and I was disappointed that I hated the characters so much that I couldn't finish the book.

Trying to be ACOTAR and failing

There are too many instances where this book again feels like they were trying to be ACOTAR but without the world building, without the intimacy and chemistry between characters, and even the sex scenes were unimaginatively graphic as if it’s just there cause sex sells. Like a teenage boy watching porn. Disappointing. It only got interesting in the last five minutes.. but not worth it for continuing. I was hoping the second book would be better but..
