Publisher's Summary

“Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.

I believed them. That was my mistake.

There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.

I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster.

For two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, Subject Six-Eight-Four - ‘Jane Doe’ - has been locked away and experimented on, without uttering a single word.

As Jane’s resolve begins to crack under the influence of her new - and unexpectedly kind - evaluator, she uncovers the truth about Lengard’s mysterious ‘program’, discovering that her own secret is at the heart of a sinister plot...and one wrong move, one wrong word, could change the world.

Amazing

As a teen I love this book, some parts are a bit intense but I also love this author and the other books she has released

Atmospheric Fantasy Fiction

This story starts uncomfortably bleak and evolves into a somewhat formulaic 'X-men' versus 'Mutant Brotherhood' storyline for tweens, but it's undeniably entertaining. 'Jane Doe' ('Subject 6-8-4') is an archetypal YA Protagonist: misunderstood/mistreated, in possession of overwhelming power (even among the "gifted"), and plagued by pubertal/confused sexual urges, obsessions with friendships & attraction, and love-triangle dynamics. If you're a fan of Young Adult literature: the ingredients are all there.
Accusations that Lynnette Noni writes a weak female lead are legitimate: 'Jane'/Alyssa is trained daily in Martial Arts and loves fighting.. but is a hilariously stereotypical Girlie-Girl (loving the color Pink and Kittens - that's right - KITTENS), she moodily hates her captivity at 'Lengard' Facility and has the willpower to keep completely silent for 2½ years.. but is maddeningly insecure and easy to fool; and she furiously resents being manipulated.. but loses herself looking deep into the bafflingly overemphasized gorgeous eyes of attractive boys while blushing with embarrassment.
The characters are cartoonish, the romance elements are overdone, and the dialogue is often melodramatic.. but Noni also fashions a thought-provoking quasi-dystopian scenario that reminded me a little bit of Veronica Roth's 'Divergent' series, has great description talents, and uses the "Fleming Sweep" technique (ending chapters with surprise revelations & cliffhangers to drive pace) to perfection.

Audible Studios Inc. further did listeners a service enlisting 'Nowhere Boys' actress Tamala Shelton to read the book. Her diction, light Australian timbre, cadence, and tone are exemplary - but her voice-acting in particular is *peerless* (characters are realistic, vivid, and easily distinctive). Incredible technical support makes the recording equally impressive with earbuds or on speakers. The spectacular production quality elevates the book markedly.

Overall, this is a relatively "average" YA Fantasy tale.. but the performance raises it to an 8.5/10 Star production. I got it as a 'Plus' selection.. but even after Audible removes it from that catalogue, 'Whisper' is worth a Credit. On to Book Two..

Wow

I grabbed this book on a whim while at work to kill some time. I was truly surprised with how good and absorbing the story was. The fact that for a chunk of the story the main character doesn't actually speak yet conveyed so much was a great element. I'd very much recommend giving athe book a listen.
