About this listen
An achingly funny story from the author of the best-selling You Had Me at Hello.
When Edie is caught in a compromising position at her colleagues' wedding, all the blame falls on her - turns out that personal popularity in the office is not that different from your school days. Shamed online and ostracised by everyone she knows, Edie's forced to take an extended sabbatical - ghostwriting an autobiography for hot new acting talent, Elliot Owen. Easy, right?
Wrong. Banished back to her hometown of Nottingham, Edie is not only dealing with a man who probably hasn't heard the word no in a decade but also suffering an excruciating regression to her teenage years as she moves back in with her widowed father and judgy, layabout sister.
When the world is asking who you are, it's hard not to question yourself. Who's that girl? Edie is ready to find out.

Mhairi McFarlane is an incredibly talented writer
There are books out there which you can tell have been written on a template - they might be good, but you don't really savour them. And then there are writers like MF who seem to be writing out of pure inspiration - and their books are a delight! I read almost all MF's novels and I am always in awe at how talented she is. The themes she touches on as the backdrop for her love stories are current and serious. and yet she still manages to entertain and produce some good laughter. I just hope her muses will keep inspiring her and we can enjoy more and more books by this wonderful writer. Cassie Bradley deserves praise too, she did a splendid job narrating.
