À propos de cet audio
"Superb ... a perfect horror for our imperfect age.”–The New York Times
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLER
There’s power in a book…
They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, to give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened.
Fifteen-year-old Fern arrives at the home in the sweltering summer of 1970, pregnant, terrified and alone. Under the watchful eye of the stern Miss Wellwood, she meets a dozen other girls in the same predicament. There’s Rose, a hippie who insists she’s going to find a way to keep her baby and escape to a commune. And Zinnia, a budding musician who plans to marry her baby’s father. And Holly, a wisp of a girl, barely fourteen, mute and pregnant by no-one-knows-who.
Everything the girls eat, every moment of their waking day, and everything they’re allowed to talk about is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them. Then Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely. There’s always a price to be paid...and it’s usually paid in blood.
In Witchcraft for Wayward Girls, the author of How to Sell a Haunted House and The Final Girl Support Group delivers another searing, completely original novel and further cements his status as a “horror master” (NPR).

Excellent
The narrator did an amazing job on this book! She left me feeling every emotion these girls were going through as if I were right there with them!
I love how the author finished off the story.
I'm super glad I took a chance with this book as I wasn't disappointed!

Fun Read
I really liked the ending! It was a fun read. Lots of girls think of how it would be nice to have more power, especially when your life is not within your control

Interesting and pulled me in!
I’ve read a few of Grady Hendrix’s books now, and I’m really enjoying the way he writes. And I really enjoyed this audiobook, the voice actor was a great choice, very captivating, definitely does justice to the writing.
For the audiobook: The only thing I could’ve gone without is the vocals going too high when they were chanting.

Grady Hendrix never disappoints!
10/10… I loved this story. The imagery is fantastic and as all of Grady Hendrix’s books do, you’ll end up feeling like you’re right inside the house with the girls. This story vividly takes you back to the 1960s. I loved the witchcraft twist that was thrown into an already great story about a long ago era.

Witchcraft for Wayward Readers: A Horror Novel Without the Horror
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix was a disappointment, especially for fans expecting his usual blend of horror and dark humor. Marketed as a horror novel, it turned out to be more of a slow-moving historical fiction piece, with little to no supernatural elements to justify its title. While the writing was solid and well-researched, the story was agonizingly bland, with two-dimensional characters and a lack of real stakes. The so-called witches were particularly uninspired, offering no real intrigue or depth. A good warlock or two might have livened things up, but instead, the plot just meandered without excitement. For those expecting thrills or horror, this one is a slog—best approached with caution, if at all.
