About this listen
Forced to return to London to try to save Max from the gallows, Hugo and Neve are well aware of the danger of their situation and try to anticipate every eventuality. But betrayal comes from an unexpected quarter, putting Neve and Hugo in mortal danger, and forcing them to reevaluate whom they can trust.
Unexpected reunions, simmering old hatreds, and shocking betrayals abound as Neve and Hugo race against time to help Max and flee England before it's too late.

Not for people who love animals or children
I listened to the first book and got 80% through the second hoping for improvement before I gave up in disgust and stopped listening Warning Spoilers ahead. Where to begin? The main protagonist is a whiny milquetoast character who chooses to return to the past to assuage her man's ego despite the innumerable risks to her unborn child, lets a horse lie suffering while she needs a hug rather than demanding someone ends it's suffering and is fine with having sex in a room shared with a wide awake eight year old child. She's also not very bright, not thinking to bring some basic things with her to the past that would help with disguise: Hair dye, contact lens fluid, antiseptics, etc. But here is the worst: The auther often goes into long, detailed descriptions of horrific animal cruelty, and repeats all the brutal human punishments and nauseum. Just how often do we need to read a description of the same public execution methods? How many descriptions of sadistic pedophilia? Then there was the gratuitous description of a corpse's desectration. Finally, there is the sheer laziness in doing any research. Arabian horses are not large powerful horses: They are relatively small. Logic issues: How would a 20th century woman instantly know how to ride side saddle? They had been in use since the middle ages, right up to the 1920s.
