Story
“Long live the King” hailed Entertainment Weekly upon publication of Stephen King’s On Writing. Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer’s craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King’s advice is grounded in his vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999—and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery.

Story
This weekend workshop, recorded live, is a primer on writing the modern memoir, which, unlike your grandmother's memoir, can be written at any age. Also, a memoir can be about just part of your life. "The more you are present, the more the past will come up and be alive," says Natalie. "Only right now can give you your past."

Guidance on life as much as writing
A book that should be on everyone’s shelf. The audible version, narrated by the author her self, includes Natalie speaking candidly about what she wrote in bones at the end of each chapter, sometimes in between. What she’s learned, how she writes and practices now. It’s a rare opportunity to hear an author’s evolution from their own mouth. Plus a 1hr open dialogue at the end. A brilliant addition to an already brilliant book.

delightful
listening to the author read and reflect on a book she wrote 20 years ago was refreshing. Still as relevant as it was then.

"Just be a noodle..."
The more I listen, the more I relax into Natalie's Slow, her gearing down, gathering in of the consciousness, abandoning competition and goal-oriented, driven producing -- and slowing back down to the writing for the love of it, writing for the deep enjoyment of the flow ❤

Inspiring
I paused to re-listen to many sections of this. I will listen to it again for sure. I've used some of this in my writing practice without realizing it, and now I will do so consciously.

Apt Writer Advice to Better Appreciate the Process
A rather Zen look at the writers process with a mindset known more to be prevalent in the late 60s/70s. It would have been innovative in its time. It will however be a good reminder for newer writers to slow down and not looking at writing as a peer-pressure induced race, but the creation of art which has its own time schedule.
