Story
Fourteen-year-old Mona isn't like the wizards charged with defending the city. She can't control lightning or speak to water. Her familiar is a sourdough starter, and her magic only works on bread. She has a comfortable life in her aunt's bakery making gingerbread men dance. But Mona's life is turned upside down when she finds a dead body on the bakery floor. An assassin is stalking the streets of Mona's city, preying on magic folk, and it appears that Mona is his next target. And in an embattled city suddenly bereft of wizards, the assassin may be the least of Mona's worries.

Story
Imagine it were possible to bring the characters from a book to life. Not like when you listen to an audiobook with such enchantment that the characters seem to jump off the pages and into your bedroom...but for real. Imagine they could actually climb out of the pages and into our world. Then imagine if those characters brought their world into ours.

Better then the first book!
I want to start by saying that I am 25 years old and I love these books. They are not just for young adults. I was sceptical at first about this series while reading Nevermoor as I found the book to have too many similarities to Harry Potter. Wundersmith exceeded my expectations and I actually thought it was amazing. Townsend expands on the world and the characters in Wundersmith in a way that expands the story and takes it in a completely different direction then I was expecting. By the end of this book, I actually found that my initial criticism of the series being too similar to Harry Potter was not a fair judgement. Although I liked the first book Nevermoor I found it to be a lot of info-dumping, world-building and I did find it similar to Harry Potter. However, Wundersmith takes the series in a completely different direction that is extremely refreshing, exciting and fun. It was a fun, magical, quick and exciting read. I found it to be fast-paced and I never wanted to put it down. I actually finished it in one sitting! The performance was amazing! Whelan is a phenomenal narrator and really captivates her audience. Overall, I would rate this book a 5 out 5-star. This series has great potential and I will continue to read the next books and I can't wait for the third book to come out. Definitely, give this series a try! I'm predicting that every book in this series will just get better and better!

My tweens loved it.
My kids cannot wait for the next book to come out! I’ve been reading aloud to them since they were babes and now we listen to audio books at bedtime. They were enthralled with this unique fantasy story. The voice artist is simply fantastic with her knowledge of accents and she keeps you in the grips of the story!

While it's a YA novel I found it lovely, the performance fantastic, and the character development delightful

3rd book in the series has inappropriate content
I was really enjoying this series until they introduced same gender kissing, in the third book. That's not my idea of entertainment. It seems more like an attempt at indoctrination, in a children's series. I returned the entire series. To promote homosexuality is to promote pain & suffering. I will not support that. I feel for those with that challenge.

Another great book!
Gemma Whelan truly just makes the story even better. Her voices and how she brings the book to life honestly made me search every other thing she’s read to hear it, I love her performance that much. And the book itself, is such a pleasure to listen to, it’s definitely one of those books I will listen to many times! It just flows and is easy to follow and to enjoy.

Fantastic Sequel, can’t wait for the next books
Easy read, fantastic listen. It really built the characters more from the first book. I like the evolution of Morigan and everyone in her life.

Will listen again!
This has been an AMAZING audiobook to listen to! After the first book, I didn’t know what to expect from this one. Wasn’t sure if it could be just as good. Not surprising, this was a “page turner” for sure! I can’t wait to listen to the set again!
