About this listen

"Things like crowns had a troublesome effect on clever folks; it was best to leave all the reigning to the kind of people whose eyebrows met in the middle."

Three witches gathered on a lonely heath. A king has been cruelly murdered, his throne usurped by his ambitious cousin. A child heir and the crown of the kingdom are both missing. The omens are not auspicious for the new incumbent, for whom ascending this tainted throne is a more complicated affair than you might imagine - particularly when the blood on your hands just won't wash off, and you're facing a future with knives in it.

What the critics say

"One of the pleasures of the book is the way in which literary classics float effortlessly through them in a way that would be pounced on as inter-textual in another author but is never allowed to become strident or alienating in Pratchett's work." (Guardian)

Great story

truly a great story, but there seems be be a bit missing.

the volume control made it difficult to enjoy, sadly the Narrator did his best but failed with his version of Death. still I give credit for the effort.

thankyou very much to all for putting it together.

Short and not Pratchetts best work

I have thoroughly enjoyed all my previous Pratchett novels, however this one was extremely short (3 hours) and not as enthralling as the others. I find it interesting that another version of the same title is considerably longer. Is something missing?
