About this listen
Fans of 1990s shows like Dawson's Creek and Friends will love this throwback rom-com from USA Today bestselling author Karen Grey.
From insta-lover to insta-enemy. All that, and a bag of chips.
In a sleepy Southern coastal town crowned the Hollywood of the East, worlds collide, and sparks fly when fate has two TV casting directors acting as accidental rivals.
It’s not just that the town isn’t quite big enough for the two of them. Violet Davenport brings deep roots, local allies, and old-fashioned Southern charm to the table. Nate Fowler’s got deep pockets, tech knowhow, and a family that’s been in the biz since the silent film days.
For their businesses—and their hearts—to survive, they'll have to overcome both a bitter hostility and a sweet insta-temptation.
In this enemies-to-lovers, new-in-town, one-night-stand unlikely love story, a girl boss and a Hollywood bad boy find that you only get as good as you give.

90’s Film Industry Romance!
This was such a different listen for me. I am not normally a huge fan of the Hollywood trope, but Karen Gray did so well with this one! Instead of the main characters being on camera, we got to experience characters behind the scenes of a casting company. I love seeing the side of the industry. As someone who works in this industry in real life, Karen was spot on with the work titles, workflow, the slang we use and more. It made it so much more realistic instead of just a cheesy “film industry” romance.
I also surprisingly enjoyed the fact that it was based in the 90s. I loved the atmosphere of it! I loved the chemistry between Violet and Nate. They started out as a one night stand, turned into rivals than lovers. It was a great relationship growth as well as some personal growth for each of them. Nate was such a great male character. He was very in tune with his feelings and wasn’t afraid to show it. On the other hand Violet, was so bossy but so efficient and friendly with her work and outside. She is a girl boss.
There wasn’t a lot of spice to my liking. There was also a lot of unnecessary drama in my opinion. It didn’t bother me a whole lot because I was kind of distracted elsewhere. The story was a little bit at times slow. I probably might have struggled with it if I actually read it instead of listening to it.
I really enjoyed the female narrator. She was so fun to listen to! Her voice was so captivating. She brought the story and violet to life. for the male narrator, I found him to be a little monotoned at times. I am a bit picky with my male narrators anyways lol. Don’t hate me please. Otherwise I really enjoyed him.
I received a copy in exchange for my honest opinion
