Publisher's Summary

When the four partners of a prominent law firm are killed in a mysterious plane crash, their widows must come together to uncover the truth in this explosive, edge-of-your-seat novel.

It’s 1985 in Providence, Rhode Island, and the four partners of a prominent, mafia-affiliated law firm have been killed in a private jet that went down outside New York City. Four very different women have just lost the loves of their lives: Justine, a former fashion model adjusting to suburban life; Camille, a beautiful, young second wife some suspect is a gold digger; Krystle, committed to leaving the firm to her sons after her husband worked his whole life to support them all; and Meredith, a stripper at the local club who was in a secret relationship with the firm’s sole female partner. While the crash is initially ruled a tragic accident, something’s not adding up: The team wasn’t supposed to be in New York that day, and it’s soon revealed that there was a very large sum of cash that burned up with the plane. The women find themselves thrown together in search of the truth, with new danger and threats unfolding at every turn.

Could a dissatisfied client be seeking revenge? Or were the partners involved in something bigger—something dangerous and deadly? What other secrets were the partners keeping, and how far might people go to ensure they stay hidden? The widows must find the answers in order to protect their inheritance, their families, and their lives.

Dynasty-esque escapism fun!

“𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫, 𝐲𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐰, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐮𝐭.”

I’ve wanted to listen this Audible Original since it came out last year. What’s not to love about a collaborative novel with zany plotlines and clever reveals?!

I alternated between the audio and the physical book, and both versions were equally fun. The four narrators were FANTASTIC; each narrator represent the four wives and do a wonderful job at making Justine, Krystle, Camille and Meredith come to life, with distinctive cadences making it easy to tell who is speaking. It’s hard to believe that the story was written by four authors; each perspective flowed so seamlessly that I had a hard time guessing for whom each author was responsible. The story feels like a throwback to Dynasty or Dallas - eighties soapy over-the-top fun with catfights, money, the mob, murder, a shocking plane crash, and infidelity. It manages to be campy, funny, heartbreaking and exciting all at the same time. I loved that the four wives weren't friends and that they didn't necessarily get along, but rather were forced to work together through circumstance. It was fun to see their character development, as they grew to lean on one another, with their friendship “forged in the fires of desperation.”

Young Rich Widows is a story of ambition, lies, fear, corruption, solidarity and friendship. It is a story that is BEGGING for an adaptation (eighties fashion and all!). I’m so excited to listen to the sequel this summer.

Desperate housewives meets James Bond.

I loved the narrations and the humour. Fun easy witty women kicking butt while being ridiculous and with a side of murder.

Great Narration but a few too many stereotypes

Despite a misleading title, this is an entertaining multi-author effort, and who wrote what isn't obvious (though I could make a guess on most), so the authors meshed together well. Narration was spot-on by multiple narrators.
An interesting premise. Tick, tick, tick.
But while I was listening, there were times when I just thought "Oh. Come. On." Tigers. Real and the people kind. A few too many stereotypes when it came to character (strippers, mobsters).
Last, but not least, the book takes place in 1985. Life just wasn't that open and understanding for gays and lesbians back in the day and same sex couples definitely could not marry (or think of getting married). So, that rang false. All that said, it was fun -- and laugh out loud funny in parts -- and I adored Krystal, who made the book better every time she surfaced. Someone else called it a campy thriller. I think that's a good summation. 3.5 stars.

Great narration

A great listen. Exceptional job done by 4 separate narrators and 4 different writers. Worth the time for sure

Wow!!!

This was really good, I love the way it was written and the narrators did a great job reading their parts. I ended up caring about each of them and wanted them to succeed.
