About this listen
Harnessing the power of self-control for people who like cake, hate push-ups, and aren’t robots
Admittedly, self-control may be the least-coveted fruit of the Spirit. But the truth is that people who are successful at self-control have freer, happier lives, and we all want that. After all, our bad habits - from the slight to the serious - bring with them a host of negative emotions, take up our time, and keep us from being the best version of ourselves.
Sure, self-control is hard, but it doesn’t have to be that hard. Your Future Self Will Thank You is a compassionate and humorous guide to reclaiming your willpower based on the Bible and brain science. It shares proven, practical strategies for success, as well as biblical principles that will help you along the way.
Whether you want to lose a few pounds, conquer addiction, or kick your nail-biting habit, this book will help you get motivated, stay motivated, and achieve your goals. Get the help you need to be freer, happier, and more successful. Your future self will thank you!

Delivers as Expected
Not sentimental or prideful/egotistical "self-help" nonsense, a very good practical and meaningful look into our brain and the practices that have helped me be a better version of myself.
Very helpful, engaging, well written and well presented.

great instructions
this was a really good book to help me see how self control works! self control is at the end of the list of the fruits of the spirit maybe because it boils down to the best way you can give God glory is to "forsake yourself" and stop doing selfish things

Worthwhile for practicality, but be discerning
First, I really enjoyed this book. This was my first ever Audible audio book! The quality was great and the reader did a fantastic job at conveying the emotional range of the book.
Second, there is a lot of very practical advice and insights in "Your Future Self Will Thank You." I fully intend to utilize many of the principles outlined in this book. Why? Because I think those principles will work.
Third, be discerning while going through the book. There are certain practices the author offers which Christians should not engage in (i.e. Mindfulness and lectio divina). I'm not going to put a whole article's worth of reasoning for saying this. However, Christians should know the author mentions certain worldly practices that demonstrate his willingness to accept them without examining whether scripture allows Christians to participate in those practices. The practices I'm describing are NOT the focal point of the book, but they are mentioned in a positive light.
As I mentioned in my second point, I am planning on utilizing some of the advice I learned from this book. I'm even anticipating going through the book a second time in the not so distant future.
I recommend this book to people who aren't interested in following worldly fads, but are looking for sincere help in improving their self-control. Though there are worldly fads mentioned in this book (see my third point), I think the author's genuine desire is to edify the church by examining self-control from the most practical perspective he could.
I recommend this book if you're seeking to find fresh wind in your sails concerning sanctification, and if you're able to manage your expectations well enough to allow for you to actively discern the content. There is no magic pill to improve self-control, and the author doesn’t pretend there is, so if you can manage your expectations accordingly you will glean some treasures in "Your Future Self Will Thank You."
