About this listen

In her first-ever (sort of) memoir, the beloved actor and YouTube sensation gets personal about everything from mental health to drunken debaucheries with this “brave, behind-the-webcam look at self-discovery” (Kirkus Reviews).

As an only child raised in a town of less than 8,000 people and without a Starbucks in sight, Meghan Rienks has always been pretty good at entertaining herself. Then one day — cue the dramatic voiceover — her life changed forever.

In 2010, Meghan was diagnosed with mononucleosis. Mono is basically just a really bad case of the flu, right? Wrong. To a party-crazed 16-year-old, mono is social suicide. More than anything, it’s just plain boring. So, Meghan opened up her MacBook, used the webcam for something other than a bad Andy Warhol-style photobooth session, and recorded her first YouTube video. Since then, Meghan has shared the ups and downs of her life with the internet, documenting her teenage years for the whole world to see.

Now that she’s (mostly) through her awkward stage, Meghan’s here to tell you that it gets better. You’re not alone in the thoughts you think. Sometimes a bad hair day feels worse than a punch in the gut and asking a boy out seems about as difficult as achieving that perfect dewy glow. But despite what you’ve been told, your problems are not unique, and somebody else has felt the way you feel right at this very moment.

You’re not special. But you’re also not alone on the bumpy road to adulthood.

Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never-the-same, totally unique

Yes i did just reference the iconic Lady Gaga quote but holy shit I LOVE THIS BOOK. I’ve been watching Meghan since the blue 2012 bedroom days. I bought the audible version and it’s worth every penny. It’s funny, sad, raw, and most important REAL. It was worth the late release. Will be recommending this book to all my friends.

The older sister I didn’t know I needed.

I decided to read this book because my sister loved Meghan‘s podcast and I wanted something her and I could talk about. I went into this book thinking it was going to be like every other YouTube/bloggers book lacking any real substance or in-depth thought. I’ll be the first to admit that wow I was wrong. I was always the older sister in every relationship I ever had the listener the advice giver and the one who always had their shit together. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again sometimes when you read a book it reads you. I feel like Meghan truly wrote the book for every woman feeling as though their inner thoughts are them being overdramatic or feeling like they can’t find their place in the world. Thank you Meghan for being my older sister.

Funny and relatable

I found Meghan on YouTube from her hacking videos and this book sealed me in as a fan! She is so open and honest and raw in this, she is also funny. We are the same age-ish so her pop culture references were literally my childhood!! I think it’s geared more towards late teens in terms of advice, most 20 somethings are over that phase now. But it is still good to look back and say... omg SAME, and not feel weird about yourself. Laughed, cried, thought. It was a great roller coaster.

binged it over two days and helped me get through

what a lovely, relateable memoir and a beautiful story of struggle and rebirth. I too have a rough relationship with my mother and really related to her being the first one I turned to and the endless amount of dissatisfaction when she always made it worse. honestly, thank you for sharing. I laughed as we listened to the Lord of the rings soundtrack (working from home) and I cried along with you when you recounted your struggles with relationships and awful terrible roommates.

More of a self help

Im really surprised by how this book was more of a self help for more teens and college students Im definitely not the target audience for this book. Wish it would of been marketed that way!
