About this listen

Zebi, a homeless seven-year-old, girl lives in a part of the world where many young children don't have access to education or basic necessities of life. Zebi, her mother, and her baby brother panhandle on the streets of a sprawling metropolis. While struggling to survive, Zebi glimpses a different kind of life, one that appears like a fairytale to her: happy clean girls running into school every morning and beautiful families riding in air-conditioned cars on scorching hot days.

Zebi's spirit is waiting to soar. She refuses to accept that her situation is irredeemable. Naturally curious, strong-willed, and enterprising, Zebi is determined to be one of the girls she sees every morning run through the iron gates of a girls' school. Not someone who is satisfied by mere dreams, she struggles to read and write. Eventually her efforts pay off when she steps into the same school that she has been standing vigil at every morning.

The book is about a homeless girl who refuses to accept her predicament and struggles to make her dream of going to school come true.
