「飛行機で眠るのは難しい。そう思いませんか、お嬢さん？」・・・ウィーン行きの飛行機で乗り合わせた男の呼びかけに、最初は戸惑った私だが、やがて彼の語る物語に惹きこまれていった。「眠るためには、暗闇に導いてくれるその人固有の眠りの物語を映し出すのです」と言って、彼が語った物語というのは、以前乗り合わせたウィーンで布地屋を営むという小さな老女の話だった。
