海軍予備士官として、戦死した友や帝国海軍への鎮魂の思いを綴った『雲の墓標』『軍艦長門の生涯』『暗い波涛』など一連の海軍ものの小説で知られますが、先日、亡くなりました。
その滋味とユーモアに富む文章は読む人をすっと惹き込みます。生きものを擬人化した「スパニエル幻想」と「鱸とおこぜ」の二編はユーモラスな逸品です。「スパニエル幻想」のスパニエルは飼い犬”コッカ―スパニエル”のこと。そして、釣り客の獲物である”鱸（すずき）”と”おこぜ”。これら２作品では人間臭いセリフを語らせています。「鱸とおこぜ」は、魚を擬人化したユーモア短編。藪医者おこぜや生臭坊主のくらげに翻弄される思考派の鱸（すずき） 。インチキ処方箋を信じて苦しみ、あげくは釣りあげられてしまいます。迷問答が笑えます。
