  • German Robles learned from a young age to never reveal his true identity, never talk about where he came from and never tell anyone where he was born. When he crossed the border at age 5, he would say goodbye to everything and everyone he knew. Starting school in a new country, he didn't understand a word anyone said, and would go home crying. There was always a fear growing up that he would be deported back to Mexico. Without a social security number he was unable to fly, drive, work at most jobs or even get a fishing license. German explains the role that illegal immigrants play in helping our economy. Robles says, "We are not all impacted by the laws surrounding immigration but we all benefit from illegal labor."
