  • Summary

  • Emmy Award-winning actor Jeff Daniels brings his iconic career to life in Alive & Well Enough, a captivating audio-only adventure produced with his son, Ben. In this musical memoir, Daniels charms listeners with his alluring voice and intimate, emotional retelling of his star turns in movies ranging from Terms of Endearment to Dumb and Dumber, his songs and plays written straight from his midwestern soul, and the hopes and dreams that led him from a small town to a career as one of America's best-loved actors. Alive and Well Enough is uniquely structured to take listeners on a delightful and imaginative adventure, flashing forward and backward in time with calculated abandon, reviving some of his most memorable characters, all while stitching together Daniels’ own life story. In Alive and Well Enough, Jeff Daniels, whose body of work spans genres and generations, returns to what he knows best: his stories, songs, and guitar.

Welcome to my Audio Adventure where I get to be an actor, a playwright, a songwriter, and a storyteller. In this opening episode, I play all five parts in a scene from my hit comedy Escabana In Da Moonlight, perform my song “God’s Little Joke,” and take you behind the scenes into my final performance as Atticus Finch in the Broadway production of To Kill A Mockingbird.

In town for the Toronto Film Festival, a wayward pedestrian screamed at me, which inspired my song “Have a Good Life then Die.” In a speech that will outlive me, I take you on the set of The Newsroom on the day Will McAvoy answered the question “What makes America the greatest country in the world?” “Now You Know You Can” is the song about what that day meant to me.

Love this soul

He exemplifies the funny-man who is truly a deep thinker. Saw some of Newsroom and knew he could be intense, now I know he can deep in real life too.

The whole package

I didn't really appreciate Jeff Daniels until I came across Newsroom as an Aaron Sorkin fan. When I watched it the second time I noticed that Jeff clearly was playing the guitar "like ringing a bell" and the last episode's tribute to Charlie "That's how I got to Memphis" sent me to find Jeff's music. I was HOOKED. Love this podcast that connects the dots, and as I am a "on again/off again" acoustic guitar player, I identify with the therapeutic benefit of losing myself in making music.
