About this listen

In this episode of Tech and Talk, we spoke with Professor Joe Borsato, a final-year doctoral candidate at Queen’s University. During his doctoral studies, Professor Borsato was recognized as a SSHRC Scholar (2020–2024), a Robert L. Middlekauff Fellow at the Huntington Library (2023–2024), a Paul Oskar Kristeller Fellow with the Renaissance Society of America (2024), and a Sansom Ideas Foundation Scholar (2023–2024). An expert in Indigenous and early Imperial history, his dissertation takes an oceanic perspective to explore the emotional and material structures Indigenous nations—such as the Arawaks, Kalinago, Powhatans, Abenaki, Mi’kmaq, Beothuk, Cree, and Inuit—used to negotiate and contest imperialism in the broader Indigenous-colonial relationship. In this episode, we discussed his academic journey, his dissertation, his publications, and the ways AI can and cannot influence the teaching and practice of history.
