Dissecting Medicine

Written by: Jesse Osbourne
  • Summary

  • Hi, my name is Jesse. I'm almost thirty and making the switch to medicine, and in the process I'd like to learn a little more about the different specialties within the field as well as gain a more global understanding of health and healthcare in Australia including the perspectives from researchers, academics and health policy makers.

In this podcast, I interview doctors, nurses, specialists, researchers, educators, and public health experts about their field, their career paths, and discuss the role that their job plays in the overall health of Australia. Being an older medical school applicant myself, I’m fascinated by career paths but I’m also interested in learning more about the depth and breadth of health and healthcare. Carving out a career in medicine or any aspect of the health field can be overwhelming so I’m hoping that these conversations will provide insight, entertainment, and inspiration to guide your career plan as well as mine.

Hey, I'm Jesse, I'm a professional private tutor and founder of Simplified Study Tutoring. Since 2011, I've been helping students take a simpler approach to their studies and educating people in anything from science and maths to English and economics. In March 2021 I sat the GAMSAT and achieved an 84 including a 100 in Section 3. Hopefully, that's credentials enough to give this video a good watchin'.

    Hey everyone!

On this episode of the Dissecting Medicine Podcast, I chat with three of the moderation team of the r/GAMSAT subreddit and Discord server, Liv, Renee, and Luke.

It was fantastic to meet everybody and discuss a range of topics from the subreddit and its role, democratising medical applications, preparing for GAMSAT and interviews, as well as some insights into the first semester as a medical student.

Apologies that we didn't get time to answer all of your questions but we'll be sure to get to them as soon as possible and get back to you individually :)

I hope you enjoy the episode!

  • Just me this time | Tutoring & Business | Why Medicine?
    Jun 19 2022

Hey everyone! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to arrange a guest and new episode in time for this weekend but want to keep up the consistency of the podcast. In this episode, I break down my first twelve years as a tutor and a business owner and employer.

If you were interested in learning a little more about my backstory and how I got into my line of work and what led me to YouTube and to the decision to pursue medicine (again), then I hope you find this an enjoyable watch/listen?
