FPL Pod VS Tok

Written by: Matthew Homer
  • Summary

  • If there's one thing that the brothers Matt and Nick Homer like more than Fantasy Premier League, it's trying to out do each other with their respective FPL Teams. However, with both of them struggling to watch every Premier League game and scour the web for online stats and spreadsheets, they've taken to shaping their Teams by taking on the advice of different FPL content creators.

Matt prefers to glean this FPL wisdom via different podcasts and Nick enjoys the no nonsense immediacy of Tik Tok for his inspiration. In keeping with their friendly sibling rivalry, they wanted to see whose team would do better based on the ways in which they consume FPL content, and so FPL: Pod VS Tok was born!

Each week Matt and Nick will be talking about how their respective teams are doing as well as providing reviews of the content providers that are helping shape their tactics and transfers week by week. They'll do all this with their unique blend of brotherly teasing random musings and extracts of their journeys to different football grounds ranging from amateur to the Premier League stadiums!

Matt and Nick can't wait for you to join us as they document their battle for brotherly supremacy through the medium of Fantasy Football!

So until next time, keep it fun and keep it FPL!

  • Free Hit: Why we Love the WSL.
    Feb 16 2025

This episode of FPL Pod VS Tok: Free Hit sees the lads talk about their experiences of watching the Women's Super League, Champions League and FA Cup and why they think that more people should get out there and watch the likes of Lucy Bronze, Chloe Kelly, Bunny Shaw and Fran Kirby.

Recorded after episode 11 of the main pod, which saw them talk about the WSL clash between Chelsea and Manchester City, this edition of the show could be an interesting one for anthropologists and sociologists as the brothers are taken aback by how defensive they are about their enthusiasm for the women's game. The chaps have been so used to the likes of social media trolls deriding the WSL that, instead of an out and out celebration of why they enjoy these fixtures, they talk about their frustrations relating to the criticisms of women's football as well as the barriers and obstacles that the game has experienced over the decades. This includes the FA's ban on women playing football in 1921.

We'd also like to, again, recommend the We Are Chelsea podcast, which features interviews and chat with the Blue's Women's squad.

We'd very much like to do a more structure episode on this topic in the near future, but will be back to our usual format next week. Speaking of which, the transfer deadlines for FPL as well as FWSL are included below...

Deadline for your FPL changes is Friday the 21st of February at 18:30.

The deadline for your FWSL changes is Sunday the 2nd of March at 11:30. There is a host of international games before then!

  • Free Hit: Is the Premier League too Uneven?
    Feb 7 2025

With the FA Cup taking place this weekend, Matt and Nick are having a mini break from our usual format and we are finally airing the second episode of our "Free Hit" series.

This time, the brothers are tackling sports broadcaster, and co-host of the Official FPL Podcast, Julien Lauren's question which is as follows...

“For the first time in Premier League history, six teams are still winless after five matches. Does this say something about the Premier League? Too uneven? Weaker? Does it even matter? I’m not really sure but I find it interesting!”

As you may already be able to tell, this episode was recorded a few game weeks ago on the 1st of October but contains a lot of interesting nuggets when it comes to the our thoughts on the general competitiveness of clubs who are promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.

While we will give this the proper fanfare when the pod returns to it's usual format soon, you will also hear music from our friend and Pod VS Tok listener Shane Speed, aka Sea of Days, who has answered our prayers and kindly allowed us to use extracts from his forthcoming album Wound Poem. We are delighted to have Shane's support and would like to point you to his incredible music and radio show through the links below.

  • Dry Your Eyes Mate
    Jan 31 2025

Hello there! It's episode 24 and, somewhat unusually, the lads go straight in and talk all things Premier League after a weekend that saw Robert Sanchez help Manchester City defeat their beloved Blues 3-1. Cue a bit of a discussion about Chelsea's other 7 goalkeepers and Kepa Arrizabalaga who is currently on loan to high flying Bournemouth.

It's also another episode and another poor week for Team Pod. This leaves Matt considering a wildcard so that he can rip it all up and start again. Matt is also left to regret not listening to his podcast of the week ahead of game week 23 as the advice on Above Average FPL was pretty solid.

Team Tok continue to fly high and the lads look ahead to game week 24 and discuss the triple captain and Assistant Manager chips respectively. Given recent results, this episode isn't pleasant listening for Dominic Solanke and his Tottenham teammates but, even then, Spurs are doing better than Matt and Team Pod!

The chaps do go on their usual tangents but, this time, they are football related and include chat about the Chinese Super League and references to the recent downfall of Guangzhou F.C. This prompts them to wonder if they should migrate from BlueSky to RedNote when it comes to their use of social media.

The deadline to make your transfers, tactical changes and captaincy decisions is Saturday the 1st of February at 11:00am.

We are also hoping to finally have some music for the podcast next week so, until then, we have used some of the "best of clips" as well as some bloopers from our visits to Tooting and Mitcham. The final clip may make you think of The Minions. You'll know when you hear it!

Anyway, until next time, remember, keep it fun and keep it F.P.L!

    Bye for now!
