  • The Everything is Political Episode
    Sep 5 2020
The Everything is Political Episode What the fuck, when did everything become political? When did everything from how we eat, to what we wear, to the conversations we have with friends all become distinctive political narratives about us? How did we get to a place where if you wear a mask or don't wear a mask it says who you support for president? This is madness, so we figured we'd talk about it. On this episode we discuss: -How many of us are making things up, calling them facts, sharing them, when in fact these are often just our opinions -Because of technology, everyone has the ability now to speak their mind publically  -Everyone has subtle and hidden biases many of which show up in the political conversation and often is unaddressed -We are what we already believe -We must do better -We hide from what we don't want to hear Thank you for listening! • The Iowa Derecho Disaster Episode
    Aug 27 2020
The Iowa Derecho Disaster Episode Roughy two weeks ago a powerful derecho hit Iowa leaving over 14,000 Iowans without power, millions of dollars in crops destroyed, many without clean water, access to food, safe shelter, as well as many other necessities for safety and survival. The thing is, not many of us even knew it happened, what a derecho is, or what was happening in Iowa as it wasn't being reported on National News. We knew because Bree and her family live in Cedar Rapids one of the hardest-hit areas. Bree and her family and so many others described the experience as, "it looks like a war zone." Most of us have never lived through a disaster like this, so we felt like it would be great not only to shed light on Iowa as they still need help and support but also to give Bree the space to share her experience. We discuss: -The impact of dealing with a disaster -How to keep life moving forward -How we each deal with it differently -The impact of the community and media Thank you for listening!
