Birds Heralding Rain Season

  • Summary

  • It is late afternoon when this clip is recorded. The clouds are thick and hang low and dark. The birds arrive back early to their night roosts.

They perch and generally hang around in their hood and sing merry tones to herald the new rain season. Then it started with lightening flashes across the sky and followed by heavy thunderstorms.

The skies sounded busy with new sounds that muted the bird songs in the ecosystem. Thunder claps exploded and echoed in a wave of cascades across the skies into the far horizon.

Showers of rain fell into the ground in gentle waves to quench the cracked and thirsty earth. Rains are always welcome in Africa where seasons have been disrupted by the onset of climate change.

And it is no longer certain when one season begins and the other ends. But it came this day and that counted for a regenerative season. A time of plenty for all creatures great and small.
