• Episode 10 - Moving Kryptonian Images Part 3 - Superman II
    Feb 17 2025

Welcome to another thrill packed installment of a podcasting maxi-series called Moving Kryptonian Images: The Live Action and Animated Adventures of Superman! The purpose of this series is to celebrate the release of the new Superman film, written and directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor!

This time out I am joined by Scott Ryfun, the most listened to man in South Georgia, to talk about Superman II. Which we do. Mostly. In and around talking about the movie itself we chat about watching HBO in the early to mid eighties, what comic book shows and movies were like going back to the sixties, problems with VHS copies of Superman The Movie, and more. We also get into the whole Lester Cut vs Donner Cut debate because you really can't avoid that argument when you are talking about this movie.

If you are in south Georgia or northern Florida, you can listen to Scott on his show Straight Talk on WGIG 98.7 Monday thru Friday from 6 AM to 10 AM. The show is also released on iHeart Radio later in the day as well.

Feedback for It All Comes Back To Superman Series 2 can be sent to itallcomesbacktosuperman@gmail.com. At the end of this series I will be doing a feedback special going through all of the emails and comments that are left or sent!

You can subscribe to the show on Apple Podcasts/iTunes or stream it through Spotify, iHeart Radio, and Audible.

The Fortress of Baileytude Podcasting Network is on Patreon. It’s mostly a tip jar as I have no time at the moment to produce exlcusive content, but if you like the content I do produce please consider contributing a dollar a month.

The opening and closing theme to the show is titled Journey and was composed by Pontus Rufelt. It is licensed from Shockwave-Sound.

Next Time: Moving Kryptonian Images continues with Derek Russell joining me to talk about Superman III!

This time out I am joined by Steve Glosson, who is not only one of my oldest friends in podcasting but also the host of Geek Out Loud, to talk about Superman The Movie. What can be said about this film that hasn't been said before? I'm sure we don't break any new ground or uncover some fascinating new angle on the themes of this film, but we do go over the things we love about it and, oddly enough, the few criticisms that I have for the movie. I also included one or two fun bits of audio from the movie's original network premiere. More than anything it's two middle-aged men gushing over a film that helped define their younger days.

Be sure to check out Steve's show Geek Out Loud. Steve is one of the most positive voices in geek culture and has been at this game for decades. There is something for everyone to geek out on. Except maybe Star Trek.

Welcome to the first part of a podcasting maxi-series called Moving Kryptonian Images: The Live Action and Animated Adventures of Superman! The purpose of this series is to celebrate the release of the new Superman film, written and directed by James Gunn and starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor!

For this first installment I am joined by Rob O'Connor and Alan Burke of the All-Star Superfan Podcast to discuss Superman and the Mole Men, which is the first live action Superman feature film ever! Through the course of the episode we talk about the fact that this was sort of, kind of the pilot for the Adventures of Superman television series, George Reeves as Superman, Noel Neil as Lois Lane, the special effects, and the political overtones of the story. We also talk a bit about the Adventures of Superman television series in general and how this film was originally distributed.

  • Episode 7 - Looking Back and Looking Forward
    Jan 27 2025

This time out is another off the cuff, non-scripted solo episode where I talk about how 2024 shaped up as a year for me as a Superman fan and my goals for 2025. I talk about the comics I read (the end of Phillip Kennedy Johnson's run, Joshua Williamson's Superman, House of Brainiac, and Absolute Superman all get discussed), the shows I watched (My Adventures with Superman and Superman and Lois), my convention adventures, podcasting highlights, and shows I guested on all get discussed. Then I look to the future and what my Superman related goals for 2025. Plus, I talk about the mega series I have coming, which starts next week!

During this episode I mention the JSApril event which is coming in...April. It's right there in the name. You can find the home base for that event by clicking on this link.

  • Episode 6 - Unscripted Thoughts on Superman (2025)
    Dec 28 2024

This time out I am unscripted and off the cuff! Anything can happen! Damn the man! Save The Empire!

    Or something like that.

In all seriousness, this time out I present an episode where I just sit in front of the microphone and go over all of my thoughts about the Superman film that is coming out next July. With the release of the teaser trailer I thought it was time to finally collect my thoughts about everything we've seen from the film thus far and get them out in a mostly coherent fashion. I start with the first images we were shown and then go forward from there. Topics include but are not limited to the first costume reveal, the set photos, and then (finally) I get to the trailer itself. I don't do a full frame by frame break down but I do go through the moments that stood out to me. I also talk about what I think the plot is going to be, why comparing this teaser trailers to the ones from the past is both valid and not fair, the thing about this film that separates it from past feature film versions, and more.

Oh, and I talk about the music.

    BECAUSE I LOVED THE MUSIC!

Next Time: I'm not sure. I have a few different ideas for an episode before I start a series that I'll be revealing just after the first of the year. Stay tuned and all that.

  • Episode 5 - The Definitive History Tapes Part 2: A Conversation with Bob Greenberger
    Dec 23 2024

This time out I finish up my two part series talking to the authors of Superman: The Definitive History by having a great chat with Bob Greenberger. Bob is no stranger to working on a book about Superman as he was one of the co-authors of The Essential Superman Encyclopedia and I talk to him about that, The Definitive History, his time working on Comics Scene for Starlog, how he came to work for DC Comics, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Who's Who, and so much more. We also touch on the history of comic book fandom and Bob tells us what it was like collecting comics in the sixties and seventies.

Once again, I'd like to thank Bob for sitting down with me to record this. It was a lot of fun.

  • Episode 4 - The Definitive History Tapes Part 1: Ed Gross Returns
    Dec 19 2024

It All Comes Back to Superman Series Two is back with another interview! Actually it's the first of two interviews talking to the authors of Insight Editions book Superman: The Definitive History. This time out I once again sit down with Ed Gross, who is no stranger to books about Superman or books about pop culture in general. Ed and I have a great conversation that starts with us talking about the finale of Superman and Lois before getting into how this book (which you will need a spotter to read) came about. We chat about the differences in writing this book compared to Ed's last Superman book Voices From Krypton, how to balance the comic book side of Superman's history with all of the other places he has shown up over the decades, where we are in terms of Superman's place in pop culture, and so much more.

  • Episode 3 - Zero Hour with Dan Jurgens
    Aug 28 2024

Welcome to the third episode of It All Comes Back to Superman Series 2, the very irregular reaffirmation of my Kryptonian faith. This time out I'm hopping into the Time Bubble and heading back to 1994 to look at the DC Comics event Zero Hour: Crisis in Time. And I am not alone. Joining me to talk about the series is none other than the writer/penciller on that series Dan Jurgens!

Dan was nice enough to spend about an hour with me to talk about how Zero Hour came about, what it was like writing and drawing five issues that were coming out weekly while also juggling all of the characters and books that were connected to the event. Dan also tells me why some of the promotional artwork and the artwork created for the distributors that existed at the time isn't reprinted in the collected editions that have been published in the last few years, why the Justice Society was taken off the table during the story, his favorite parts of the story, and how much he got paid to draw the cover to the zero issue.

After that we discuss the Zero Month issues of the Superman books and where Kenny Braverman came from. Finally, Dan talks a bit about the Zero Hour 30th Anniversary Special that is coming out on the day this episode is dropping!

I wanted to thank Dan for spending some time with me and being so forthcoming and open with his answers.

ALSO...BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE FORTRESS OF BAILEYTUDE PODCASTING 2.0 FEED FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH RON MARZ ABOUT THE 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE KYLE RAYNER GREEN LANTERN!
