  • 55 - Sins of the Church
    Jan 29 2025
Jessee Baldwin exposes the sins hidden within religious institutions, recounting her sexual abuse as a 12-year-old at North Valley Christian School. For years, Jessee was ignored as those in power, including the pastor, protected her abuser and silenced the truth. Rather than reporting the crimes, they enabled the abuse by providing recommendations for the teacher’s employment at other schools and further supporting their role as a missionary, where the sexual exploitation of children continued globally for decades.

Mandated reporters failed Jessee and countless others, highlighting a systemic issue. Now a survivor and advocate, Jessee examines the intersection of faith, abuse, and manipulation, sharing her personal journey, the psychological toll of betrayal, and the pursuit of justice through civil court. This discussion highlights the critical role of forensic psychologists in civil lawsuits, from assessing psychological damages to providing expert testimony that supports survivors in demanding accountability and systemic change.

  • 54 - The Butcher and The Beast
    Jan 22 2025
Investigative journalist and Dark Mind Detective host Marc Deveraux explores the disturbing cases of two West Coast serial killers who shocked society: Robert Pickton, chillingly dubbed "The Butcher," and Clifford Robert Olson Jr., the infamous "Beast of British Columbia."

Pickton lured vulnerable women to his pig farm, where he carried out unimaginable horrors. He butchered his victims, dismembered their bodies, and disposed of remains in ways so grotesque that investigators were left horrified—some remains were even reportedly fed to his pigs or rendered into other products. In contrast, Olson weaponized charm and deceit to prey on young victims, his year-long reign of terror claiming 11 lives. Olson’s chilling $100K “cash-for-bodies” deal, where he extorted law enforcement for financial gain in exchange for revealing his victims' locations, further solidified his reputation as a manipulative predator.

Tune in as Marc uncovers the twisted contrasts between these men, their horrifying motives, and the immense challenges faced by law enforcement in bringing their reigns of terror to an end.
