  • Tarot cards has been a journey of over 30 years for me. I took a two and a half day course to learn how to read tarot and I was hooked. At the time, I wanted to learn how to read tarot because I loved having my cards read and I wanted to demystify it, and also learn how to do it for myself and others.

    Since this was a new skill, I relied heavily on learning the cards and the positions in the spread. It was a memorization game. It took many years to be able to put the stories together, and even longer to get out of my head and trust my intuition (which I still struggle with).

    Tarot has been an exciting journey in my personal life. In my professional life, I am an instructional designer, course writer and digital content creator. Needless to say, it was a matter of time before I took on the personal project of sharing how I learned to read tarot cards, which truly was building on the basics - which is the symbolism of the cards.

    Taking my experience in adult learning and course writing coupled with my passion for reading cards, I created these three minute podcasts to help card readers learn as I did. Ok... they aren't EXACTLY 3 minutes. I'm not THAT good! But I am around that 2.5 to 3.5 minute mark, with special episodes sometimes being longer. Please know there is so much more to know, but this should give a beginner some basics.

    For people that already have a familiarity with the cards, taking in the podcast may be a great way to focus on the lessons. For those that would do better with accompanying visuals, I would recommend searching for the card for viewing in the deck, on your computer or phone. I have used the Rider Waite deck to build this podcast course, because it is the deck that I learned on, and it is still my favorite tarot card deck.

    Even though I love the woo woo nature of cards, astrology and numerology, it can be confusing when discussing the technical aspects of the cards, and flip flopping in and out of the fluff makes it hard to learn a new skill. This audio course sticks to point so that a person learning can stay in their left brain of "doing" instead of "feeling". I love the fluff and the feeling piece, but for me, I needed to learn the cards before I could lean into how I felt and to incorporate the woo woo on my spiritual path. And .... we can only do so much in three minutes, in the spirit of focusing on basics to start, and repeating key messages (like the suit!) to help them stick.

Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. Justice upright represents fairness, truth, accountability, and the importance of cause and effect. It's about understanding the consequences of our actions and striving to align with integrity and honesty. When Justice appears reversed, however, this balance is disrupted. It can indicate dishonesty, unfair treatment, or an unwillingness to accept responsibility. The reversed Justice card often points to a need to examine where accountability is lacking. It may be within yourself, or in the situations and relationships around you. It's a call to confront truths, no matter how uncomfortable, and to work toward restoring balance and fairness. When Justice reversed appears in a reading, it's often a sign to reflect on your actions and decisions. The card asks you to own up to mistakes and take steps to make things right, emphasizing the importance of self-awareness and integrity. It may also indicate that you're facing an unfair situation where truth and accountability are ignored. Suppose you feel that Justice is not being served. In that case, the reversed card encourages you to advocate for fairness while remaining mindful of your values and principles. So, what is the best way to memorize the Justice card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Justice card moment was ten years ago. I was in a contract with a large company, and the program manager was asking someone on my team, directly, to do something that would have gotten them fired. I will not go into the details, but it was indeed a bold ask, and this was a young person, who was working the second contract of their career. What makes this a Justice Reversed is that I had to advocate for fairness for this team member in a very unfair situation. Sadly, Justice was not served for this program manager, but the team member was not put in harm's way by executing the request, which could have been damaging to her and her career at a very young age.That's all for today's Justice Card Reversed episode. Those random events sometimes can feel as though an interconnectedness exists between our life events. Now, when the Wheel of Fortune appears reversed, its energy can shift from luck and destiny, to feeling stuck in a cycle that seems like it's going nowhere. The reversed Wheel of Fortune often points to a period where you may feel as though luck is not on your side. You also may experience delays and obstacles that disrupt your plans. It's a call to examine how you react to these changes and to find new ways to adapt and realign with the ups and downs in life. So what does that mean when we see the Wheel of Fortune card reversed in a reading? When The Wheel of Fortune reversed appears in a reading, it's a sign to accept that some things are beyond your control. This card suggests that fighting against the tide may not bring the relief you seek. Instead, focus on adapting and finding ways to work with the current situation, rather than resisting it. It also points to a need to release control and trust that life is still moving in cycles that can lead to growth and change. The Wheel of Fortune reversed asks you to stay patient and keep the faith, even if it feels uncomfortable. So, what is the best way to memorize the Wheel of Fortune card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Wheel of Fortune card moment was when I was off work for six months. I couldn't seem to get traction on a new contract. It was when there was a slump in the economy, and there weren't many new contracts. I was flipping between panic and determination as I kicked up side hustles to keep money flowing. Finding those ways to adapt to the situation financially while still looking for work gave me a sense of control over a problem that was, quite frankly, out of control. What was in my control, was staying patient, positive, and productive on finding a new role, and keeping money coming in part-time. For example, my reversed Hermit card moment was when I was re-entering the world "in person" after COVID. It was a huge adjustment not being in the office, socializing with people outside of video, other than my husband, and having the freedom to interact with people without considering the rules or consequences. Once the restrictions were lifted and we could interact, it was again an adjustment for me. I was comfortable with not going out and working from home. Like many people I worked with, I didn't want to return to the office. Once my Hermit Card was reversed, I needed to reconnect with others for my well-being and mental health.
