  • Summary

  • The demand? Fossil fuel divestment. The target? Well, that’s a bit more complicated.

The fossil fuel divestment movement, led by organizations such as Sunrise Movement, Extinction Rebellion, and 350.org, challenges individually focused ideas of climate mitigation by putting the onus on institutions to consider how their financial investments may be fueling the literal and metaphorical fire. Throughout this episode, Vic speaks with two divestment organizers, and one organizer from the recent tuition strike at Columbia University, to explore divestment history, organizing strategy, the efficacy of collective action, and the role of institutions to serve communities... or not.

You can read the full list of demands from the Columbia tuition strike in the Tuition Strike Demands Letter.
