Myths and Legends

Written by: Jason Weiser Carissa Weiser Nextpod
  • Summary

  • Jason Weiser and Carissa Weiser tell stories from myths, legends, and folklore that have shaped cultures throughout history. Some, like the stories of Aladdin, King Arthur, and Hercules are stories you think you know, but with surprising origins. Others are stories you might not have heard, but really should. All the stories are sourced from world folklore, but retold for modern ears. These are stories of wizards, knights, Vikings, dragons, princesses, and kings from the time when the world beyond the map was a dangerous and wonderful place.

  • 402: Japanese folklore: Misconceptions
    Feb 12 2025
🐸Love means never having to say I'm sorry (I poisoned you)"🐸 ...or something like that. This Valentine's Day there are three love stories from Japan. On the first, a man moves on after becoming a widower (kind of), on the second, two frogs fall out of love...with a place, and on the third, the whole world is in love with a geisha.

    😈 The Creature: Maikubi (舞首)

Three heads that don't so much as dance as they do bite each other and sink ships.

The best source for mythology content

Hands down my favourite podcast. The stories are well crafted adaptions of the original stories, and across so many genres and cultures that you can get a taste of everything.

My only issue is that there are not enough episodes, because once you get through the backlog, there is nothing else that scratches the itch like Myths and Legends.

You can very easily get hooked on it, and like me, will then be patiently waiting as new episodes come out

Amazing Podcast

Typically episodic, but always tells you exactly what episode you could go back to if you care to get the full picture.

Amazing voice, well put together, and it's great to see the progress from the first episode
