Pilate Delivers Jesus to Be Crucified
Matthew 27:24-26
“Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children” Verse 25 This was the response of the people to Pilate’s wanting protection from injustice. The response said more than the people realized. First, it declared innocence. “His blood be on us” says the sentence against Christ was unjust, and He was innocent. Second, it confessed iniquity. “His blood be on us” acknowledges the iniquity of the killing of Christ. The Jews were in fact guilty of murder. Third, it invited injury. “His blood be on us, and on our children.” They got their wish, beginning with the siege on Jerusalem a few years later to all the troubles the Jews have had since then. This horrible murder of Christ has caused the Jews terrible times; but when the Jews turn back to Christ, the troubles for Israel will be over.
