  • Summary

  • Brandon and Justine have just moved into their new house, an idyllic Craftsman bungalow in a picture-perfect enclave of East Los Angeles. Brandon has a new dream-job in gaming, Justine is pregnant with their first child, and those cold Philly winters are behind them. Seemingly everything is perfect…

…Except what lies beneath the house could destroy it all.

As Brandon (Lamorne Morris) and Justine (Kylie Bunbury) try their best to fit in and make their new home work, jarring disturbances coming from the walls, awful phony neighbors, and an always-around homeless man named Manny (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), bring up old and new traumas for the couple while pushing their marriage and future plans to a breaking point.

When what’s beneath the floorboards is revealed and the picturesque façade of suburban life is stripped bare, the cracks in the foundation can’t be ignored. Possession takes audiences on a harrowing journey into the dark realities of middle-class life, prejudice, and a system rigged.

Some good ideas but overall not great

Likes: the performances were good. The story is unique in some aspects.
Dislikes: the two couples in the story were stereotypical in that they each had children, wanted a house, and the wives followed along with the wants and ideas that the husband came up with. It is very boring, at the least, that this dynamic is continually perpetuated and not reflective of current relationship dynamics. The outdated laws that were used to justify the bunker family taking over the house, and the under current of racism and classism is typical of US society. Again racism and classism in the US has been explored to death and has become tedious to read it once again.

not my cup of tea.

I so wanted to like this but wow, they sure make white people look horrible. The white people are all the bad guys, they made them lame and uncool and also untrustworthy. I wonder if all the black people were painted in that light how the story would be received? intetrsting concept but I felt it ended abruptly. the cast was great though!
