You’re probably not breathing right - does that surprise you? In today’s episode, Aprylle shares how most postpartum mamas have dysfunctional breathing patterns and why that is. She’ll also take you through some guided breath work, a “breath assessment”, and offer some strategies to start intentionally correcting those breath patterns!

Dr. Oscar Serrallach’s book, “The Postnatal Depletion Cure” has a great section on breathwork, too. We’ll be talking about postnatal depletion in future episodes!
“Breath Assessment” Checklist:
- Does your breath feel smooth or labored?
- Do you breathe through your nose or mouth?
- Do your shoulders move as you breathe?
- Are your hands moving outward and your ribs expanding in all directions (front, sides AND back)?
- Is your breath moving north to south on the inhale, south to north on the exhale?
- Where is the tension or restriction in your breathing (jaw, face, belly, etc.)?
- Which is easier, your inhale or exhale?
- Is the inhale full, or does it stop somewhere in your body?
- Is your exhale full, almost to the point where you’re coughing?
