• Investment Due Diligence 101 LIVE From The Exchange ETF Conference: Featuring Cinthia Murphy
    Mar 8 2023

When it comes to building investment portfolios, there are a lot of considerations. Passive vs. active, performance, fees, the list goes on. As an industry, we have become hyper focused on fees. Large passive asset managers like Blackrock, Vanguard and State Street have risen to dominate the ETF market. Are fees really the cornerstone for which investors should build their portfolios?

Live from The Exchange ETF Conference in Miami Beach, Florida. Cinthia Murphy, joins host Shana Orczyk Sissel to discuss why fund selection is more nuanced than many think.

Cinthia Murphy is the Director of Research for the ETF Think Tank. She is a financial journalist specializing in ETFs and investing for more than a decade. • Changing the Face of Finance: Special Guest Sonya Dreizler
    Oct 18 2022
For decades the financial services industry has been dominated by middle-aged white men. It's the image we saw on television, in movies and on industry conference stages. Today, the field is as diverse as it has ever been, yet still the stereotype of the old boys club remains. Sonya Dreizler and her partner Liv Gagnon have set out to change that as founders of Choir. Choir’s mission is to lift the voices of women, non-binary folks, people of color, and especially women of color, in industries historically represented by white men - starting with finance. They believe that we all - conferences, sponsors, speakers, and attendees - have the power to shift an entire industry simply by changing who we listen to. That starts on stage and in the media – the two most public platforms for recognizing and amplifying expert voices. Sonya joined hosts Shana Orczyk Sissel & Suzanne Lundeen Abrams to talk about the challenges of confronting the industry stereotypes, what inspired her to take on this battle and how she hopes to expand Choir's reach beyond just the financial services industry. Sonya Dreizler is the co-founder of financial services diversity tech platform Choir, as well as a speaker and author focused on fostering candid conversations about gender and race in financial services. In addition to her work at Choir, a diversity-tech platform focused on amplifying the voices of women and people of color in finance, Sonya is a sought after speaker for national financial services conferences, writes for Morningstar, and is the author of the acclaimed Do Better Series about sexual harassment, assault, and discrimination in financial services. She is a former financial services CEO with two decades of industry experience. She is a respected leader, practical thinker, and consensus-builder with excellent communication skills. Sonya previously spent 13 years at Protected Investors of America, a boutique Broker Dealer and SEC registered Investment Adviser.  She started at the firm as an executive assistant and took on increasing roles in the firm, eventually rising to COO, and then CEO. For in depth details on her work experience, please see her LinkedIn profile. She previously held the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation as well as the Series 7, 66, 24, and 28 securities licenses. She is a recipient of the Investment News 40 Under 40 award, is a 2018 LinkedIn Top Voices Recipient, is on the Refinitiv Social 100 list for 2020, and was in Financial Planning's 20 people to watch for 2020. She is a member of the Racial Justice Investment Coalition, and sits on advisory boards for several industry events, initiatives, and companies. Sonya speaks frequently at conferences, including virtually, and has published articles and been quoted in numerous trade publications. You can hear her in conversation with industry leaders on top podcasts. Sonya is on the board of Foodwise, a nonprofit dedicated to growing thriving communities through the power and joy of local food. Sonya earned a BA from UCLA in English Literature and speaks fluent Spanish. She lives in San Francisco with her husband and their two sons and she enjoys traveling with her family, weight lifting, gardening, and cooking. • Portfolio Strategy and Predicting Inflation: Special Guest Frances Newton Stacy
    Jul 14 2021

Shortly after first discovering her passion for day trading, Frances Newton Stacy was among the few to predict and trade the 2007 stock market crash. Today, she regularly appears on Fox Business News and CNBC and is the Director of Portfolio Strategy at Optimal Capital. On this episode, hear the finance wonk discuss her work bringing an institutional model to retail traders, modern portfolio theory, staying “apolitical,” how markets are gauging inflation in the coming months, and much more.

Frances started her broadcasting career appearing weekly on the Gerry V show on the Rush Radio Network from 2008-2010.  There she gained wide appeal and honed her skills for being able to explain a very complex subject matter in simple terms. She then began appearing on the local Fox 5 in Las Vegas. From there in 2010 Frances branched out to appearing regularly on Fox Business News. She has also appeared on CNBC.

Frances grew up in Colorado, where she attended the University of Denver. She discovered her passion for technical analysis and trading various markets in 2007. She has blogged for traders to help them see key cycles and key numbers of support and resistance. She has also spoken on the subject and taught a number of private trading students.

Frances perfectly predicted on the stock market crash, which began in October 2007 and is amongst the very few who successfully traded the downturn. She got out of stocks a month before the all time high and simultaneously got into the historic gold trade. Frances also called the market bottom on the Gerry V show in March of 2009 when she warned his audience that the market would go up for a while.

Wanting to be able to predict and time the next credit crisis has become Frances' passion of study. On this journey she studied the banking and credit systems in depth. Frances discovered what has to be present in order to have a credit crisis. She also enjoyed studying the underlying algorithm of our banking system, which has an undeniable mathematical structure that regardless of the market swings is always present and has predictable implications.
