The Crowd Chooses Barabbas
Matthew 27:15-23
“For he knew that for envy they had delivered him” Verse18 Pilate did not perceive a lot of things, but he did readily perceive that it was envy which caused the religious leads of Israel to attack Jesus. Pilate was in politics and knew much about envy. He recognized that it was the envy of the accusers not the evil of the accused that prompted this trial. This recognition said Christ was innocent of the accusations. Pilate repeatedly spoke of the innocence of Christ but did not have the character to execute justice. He was more concerned about the reaction of people than God.
