Estranged mothers often harbor a specific fear that causes them to show up poorly. One of my mom’s greatest fears was being abandoned and left alone. She thought if she was needed, she wouldn’t have to worry about that happening to her. So she worked hard to be needed, from a place of fear. And sometimes it created a lot of pain and turmoil between us.
