  • Blue Jays Big Dilemma + AI Takeover
    Jun 27 2024

The final hour of The FAN Morning Show is mostly focused on the Blue Jays and what is seemingly a big dilemma facing them ahead of July 30th. Hosts Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning start discussing how Toronto’s team has been a huge talking point around the baseball world if they do decide to sell at the trade deadline. Beyond that, it’s not only if they sell, but then who would they let go. At the centre of that conversation is their two cornerstones in Bo Bichette and Vlad Guerrero Jr. They enlist the help of Sportsnet’s own Ben Nicholson-Smith to delve into how the organization is going over that decision, whether or not its realistic to think the Jays can compete next season and how MLB’s postseason format makes middling teams like them think they can. After BNS, they pick the brain of another baseball mind and welcome on MLB Network’s Adnan Virk. They get into if teams are looking at the Blue Jays as a feasting ground at the deadline and how the decisions this front office makes about their cornerstone pieces in Bo & Vlad could be a tipping point for the organization that will impact the franchise’s future for many years to come. The trio also delve into that front office and if there is anything that can be a saving grace for them when discussing why this team has performed so poorly this offseason. In between the two guests, Ben and Brent take some time to dissect and discuss the announcement that AI will be used to re-create Al Michaels’ voice for custom recaps during the 2024 Olympics.

    Jun 26 2024

They welcome on ESPN senior writer Greg Wyshynski to join the conversation of welcoming back best-on-best hockey competition and the excitement around it (09:30). • NHL Offseason + MLB Trade Season
    Jun 26 2024

THE FAN Morning Show’s second hour is all about the moves needed to be made by Toronto teams. Hosts Ben Ennis and Brent Gunning start in the NHL where with the Stanley Cup awarded, it is officially the offseason. The duo look at some names around the league that are in line for extensions before the final year of their contracts. The main two are Leon Draisaitl and Mitch Marner. They wonder if one affects the other, especially the one that just won a Stanley Cup affecting one that’s in flux with his current squad. The two dive into what realistic Leafs options are regarding Marner and recap what reports have been out there in relation to them; they wonder if they should expect a resolution to the situation ahead of the draft this Friday and if not, is a move more or less likely to happen after July 1st. They also look at the super strong numbers Game 7 of the Cup Final did and if maybe playing so long into the calendar year helped that at all. Second half of the second hour returns to talking baseball as the hosts welcome on MLB Network’s Jon Morosi (26:16). The trio look at the upcoming trade deadline, the current standings and where the Blue Jays sit amidst it all; what should determine if Toronto sells, who from the Jays there would be the most interest in and which teams would be in the market for them. They also examine what return would be needed in order for TBJ to part with their two biggest assets and superstars. The hour ends with the daily Wake and Rake which focuses on the rubber match between the Blue Jays & Red Sox tonight.
