  • Episode 025 - Songwriting and Words To Live By w/ Dustin Garrett, Part 1
    Jun 20 2024
Dustin Garrett comes on to talk about songwriting and some of his most memorable words to live by, heavily influenced by the late Don Caldwell, and other greats of the Lubbock scene. Dustin is a West Texas boy who was in the last graduating class in Spade, TX, yodeled on the Grand Ole Opry at 10, made it to the finals in LA at the House of Blues (before it was torn down) for the Guitar Center King of the Blues competition, and has toured with many bands as a lead guitar player, including Rick Trevino most recently. The first half of the interview was actually lost, so I plan to head out to NMJC in Hobbs, NM where Dustin is now Professor/Director of Entertainment & Music Technology, in order to redo the first half. In good spirits, Dustin was great with that idea. Personally, as a songwriter and musician, this has been one of my favorite episodes and Dustin is the epitome of work ethic and professionalism combined with pure skill and talent that I aspire toward. I cannot wait to get ya'll part 2 from Hobbs in a couple weeks. For now, enjoy! • Episode 024 - Honor Your Father and Mother - Father's Day
    Jun 14 2024

Father's Day is coming up this Sunday, and I thought I'd take the time to talk about why I think it is so important to celebrate our Fathers. Honor Your Father and Mother - a commandment with a promise, that you will have long life in the land.

The Kirks received the farm family of the year award from the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce this year - so I talk a little bit about that and our family history, and my mom recorded 99% of the speech I gave when me and my dad accepted the award, so I shared that as well.

  • Episode 023 - Motorcycles, Kidney Stones, and Hands from God w/ Marty Gilbert
    Jun 11 2024

Marty Gilbert has mentored me (JRK) off and on since I was 15. In my faith, music, and what it means to walk the talk, practice what you preach, and just love on people. We also jammed out a while on the piano and my kids ran in circles around the house while he played cotton eyed Joe, stay tuned for the end of the episode to hear it (and see it on Spotify)
